Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership. In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Customer Rating: Summary: Not What I Had Hoped For... Comment: I had heard a lot of good things about this book, and it seemed promising. It stood out more than the others I looked at. Well, I judged wrongly. This books really isn't anything special. The plot is uninteresting, the characters are painfully 2-dimensional, and there are many unnecessary elements that I felt distracted from the flow of the story. I felt like the "urban fantasy" part quickly dissolved into a campy romance novel that reads like Buffy fan fiction.
The jokes in this book made my eyes roll. The sex scenes came out of nowhere, and the plot had little appeal to me. I felt little sympathy for the victims in the story - most of them were hookers?? And it didn't help that the main character was very slutty herself. (And she denied she was a slut, which made it all the worse.) I don't have anything against sexual content if it fits in with everything else, but this book was trying WAY too hard to be sexy - it was forced, overdone, and random.
I also hated how Cat The Rebel felt she had to obey her stupid mother all the time. And I disliked Bones, and his British accent. And what kind of a name is "Bones"? This is the dumbest book! If you are looking for a GOOD, thought-provoking urban fantasy novel, don't get this! It's nothing special or memorable like what I was hoping for.
Customer Rating: Summary: Halfway to the grave - a brisk story that could be so much better Comment: Halfway to the Grave moves briskly and introduces a spunky female lead who makes an interesting set of choices and a quite unrealistic transition from naive helplessness to confident heroic leader through the course of the story. The mother and grandparents are transparently thin, and the shift in the lead characters position from hate to tolerance of vampires, and indeed passionate love of one vampire (the hero of course!) is pretty weak. I wish more time was spent in building depth, characters, setting, reality, and alot less time was spent on sex; the story would be so much better.
Customer Rating: Summary: Must read for the paranormal romance fanatic(myself) Comment: I found this novel recommended by many in the Paranormal Romance Forum and after reading the short synopsis i decided i had to have it. Lately i have been very much into the genre and this book definitely hit the spot. i finished it within a day and i thought about it for days afterward. this book is a must read if you're into this genre. this has to be one of my favorite reads. Bones is just way too hot!
You find yourself following the story of Cat, a half-vampire, half human novelty. People like her are extremely rare, but it gives her superior speed and other vampire attributes, though not as potent as a full fledged vamp. She makes it her lifes mission to kill as many vamps as possible since her existence came to be because her mom was raped by a vamp, thus having Cat. One night she tries killing a "Master" vamp named Bones. Bones is one of the strongest vamps in existence and when they face off he takes her down fast. In exchange for not killing her, she agrees to help him by teaming up to kill murderous vamps together. Soon she finds herself attracted to the undead that she hated so much, and Bones makes it very hard for her to resist, believe me!
Highly recommended!!
Customer Rating: Summary: A Definite Treasure! Comment: I found this book to be surprisingly refreshing in a very overdone genre. I'm not actually a big fan of vampires, but I read this book and One Foot in the Grave over two days and I'm still thinking about it almost 24 hours later. The characters came to life for me and now they're refusing to get out of my head! I can't wait until December 30th to read the next installment and I may have to read both books again sometime over the next few weeks. Maybe I'm just a corny kinda girl, but I found the characters very believable and the situations exciting. Several times I found myself giggling out loud and twice I had to stop reading and pace around the living a bit to work out that adrenaline rush =) Definitely adding this author to my favorites. I only regret that I waited so long to read this!
Customer Rating: Summary: This book is not your typical romance story and is action packed from the very start. Comment: I recently finished Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. Let me start off with a quick story about this book. I recently picked up the book at Half Price Books because I knew Ms. Frost would be at the Romantic Times book fair. When I handed her the book, she got excited and said "oh wow, a well read copy!" I blushed and had to explain that I had picked up the book used and hadn't read it yet. Well, now I can understand why the copy I had was well read. This book was an excellent read from the very start.
Cat gripped me with her rebellion and loneliness and craving for her mother's approval. She was reckless as well, charging head first into a situation without stopping to think about the consequences, but she also had a bit of naivety about her. Bones on the other hand had a worldly air about him, being a master vampire and around for centuries. The interaction between the two keeps you on the edge of your seat. Their mutual attraction leaves you tense, waiting for Cat to give in to her feelings for Bones. This book is not your typical romance story and is action packed from the very start. You definitely won't be bored reading Halfway to the Grave. The ending is a cliff-hanger and leaves you craving the sequel One Foot in the Grave which has already been released.
