If there was any one man who articulated the anger, the struggle, and the beliefs of African Americans in the 1960s, that man was Malxolm X. His AUTOBIOGRAPHY is now an established classic of modern America, a book that expresses like none other the crucial truth about our times. "Extraordinary. A brilliant, painful, important book." Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing life story Comment: Malcolm was a pretty messed up individual, if I must say so myself. He destroyed many lives, he treated black women as worthless, he peddled in drugs and crime, he placed a mere human being above everything. But he changed. And what's so amazing about this autobiography is the range of emotions it takes you through. At first, I was utterly horrified to read this book and I didn't want to finish it for personal reasons, but as an African-American woman, I am glad I did.
Only after finishing the book and realizing the changes that Malcolm went through, was I finally able to put everything in perspective. It's hard to blame Malcolm for some of his antics when we know very well how much white society destroyed his life and left him feeling lower than a human being himself. Essentially though, it is Malcolm's realization that his problems with society aren't caused by a personal attack on him, but rather his race as a whole. Once he understands this, he becomes a totally new individual who believes that the only way the world is going to get better is if we all work together collectively as one race: the human race.
This the side of Malcolm that I fell in love with: the philosophical Malcolm who understood that Blacks separating from the rest of society was not the answer. Instead the answer was learning to understand each other. Now of course, over 40 yeas after Malcolm's assassination, there is still much work to be done.
Customer Rating: Summary: Timeless Classic Comment: This book is filled with many life lessons. Intriguing, suspenseful, and inspiring. I owe a lot to this book for changing my life for the better. Once you read page one you will not put it down. Enjoy!

Customer Rating: Summary: The Autobiography of Malcolm X is Excellent Comment: This is an excellent book and truly goes into the depth and breadth of who Malcolm X really was/is. The more you read it, the more you understand the greatness and wisdom of this self educated man who traveled the world and sat with kings and queens and royalty and was able to dialog and debate with the best of them. He was truly a blessing to his generation and future generations. I became a totally different person after reading this book. He answered so many questions that I had and made it so clear. I became totally inspired and increased my love of reading and increasing my knowledge base. I have great love and respect for him. He will always be revered as one who truly loved his people, worked tirelessly to wake them up and cared about the fate of mankind. Malcolm was an amazing man and he will always be missed!
