Customer Rating: Summary: Loved it Comment: Delicious series. Who doesn't love a tall, brooding vampire warrior? All the books in this series are excellent.
Customer Rating: Summary: Lover Enshrined (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 6) Comment: Just finished reading it - much better than the previous book. Took a while to get into at the beginning but then wham, it hooks you in and I ended up really enjoying it and look forward to the next brotherhood instalment. Zsadist's story is still my favourite.
Customer Rating: Summary: Where's the Brotherhood we fell in love with?.... Comment: I have been a huge fan of the Blackdagger Brotherhood series since the first book. I fell in love with the idea of this brotherhood of warriors who are all strong, loyal, brave, and all sexy as hell. You know that when they fall in love, they do it right, and they are going to be loyal and protective of their shellans till the end. Remember Thor when he found out Wellsie was dead... that's what I was hoping for with Phury and Cormia, that deep down, gut-wrenching love, but it just wasn't there.
When an author creates a world of characters this superb and this addictive, and pulls her readers in until they become devoted fans and invest time and money in her stories, I would hope she would feel some sort of connection to them, her fans, to keep writing books that keep this world alive. I loved this series, but I'm watching it change into something that is shocking simply for the sake of being shocking, and that is disappointing.
In LEn there is very little about the Brotherhood itself (I loved the traditions, the ceremonies, where are they now?!), very little romance between Phury and Cormia (it was more of a sub-plot), very little of anything that made the first three books in the series so wonderful, and so addictive. No one is in awe of the Scribe Virgin like they used to be, the brothers are all but absent, and there just isn't any of the loyalty that made the first books so great. The brothers are ready to turn their back on one of their own, and that just doesn't fit in with what we know and love about them. I understand that she wanted to really probe into Phury's drug addiction, but she could have done that and still gave us a great romance. She did it with Rhage and his need for sex and violence to control his beast. These brothers stood for something in the beginning, I think that's why so many of us fell in love with them. They had a code they lived by, and need to protect that they couldn't get away from, and it's just not there any more.
And, just to mention it, I'm glad Mrs. Ward finally put in a gay character so we can follow his romance and watch him fall in love. I hope she's done with throwing in all these bisexual characters. It's not about being gay or straight, I can enjoy a romance about either when it's a 'romance', but I want my lead hero to love his heroine or his hero, not jump from guy to girl to guy to girl.
*spoiler alert*
Qhuinn being into guys as much as girls ruined his character for me for any upcoming romance for him. Two male vampires being loyal to each other to the point of almost being in love, I get that (V and Butch), but two male vampires in a tender kiss scene... these characters are referred to as 'Males' with a capital M, and they aren't supposed to be tender to each other, or think about how soft the others lips are.
This book was enjoyable as far as it has good writing and some action with the Lessers (finally back) and some twists and turns, but it falls way short on romance and on likeable characters. I love John Matthew probably more than any other character, maybe because he's had a part in every book since book 2, but to have him hook up permanently with Xhex?! Yuck!! If Ward puts these two together, I know that for me it'll ruin John Matthews story, and that makes me so sad.
Customer Rating: Summary: "Not a Book Critic" Comment: Ok since there seems to be over 250 reviews of this book, one more can't hurt. I just finished and I loved the book, although it did seem to jump around quite a bit, Phury's story got told. It wasn't as good as the rest but I still find myself, every six months or so, going back and reading (I have them all) all again, from the beginning. I think this is without a doubt the best series I have ever read and I can't wait for MORE !!!! Not much of a review, huh, just wanted to get my 2 cents in !!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Not as bad as number 4 and 5. Comment: *possible spoilers*
OKay so I just finished reading Lover Enshrined and I have to say i thought it was much better than the stories about Butch and V. But honestly, the description of the book is different than the actual book. Now Phury has a wizard in his head, and this wizard tells him how worthless he is....etc. Okay weird.... Then there is only (maybe) about 100 pages even devoted to Phury and Cormia's relationship, if you even want to call it that. The book was good only because it was mostly about the other characters'...more or less. I was happy to learn more about John Matthew....and then Tohr came back.....so that is really cool. But honestly this book is not romance, and shouldn't be titled as such. I know other people have said this series is now Urban fanasty???? idk, but i will admitt that the other characters' were WAY more interesting than the "romance" between the main characters'. I know despite the fact i haven't liked the series too much since Z's book, I will probably get the next one ( when it is paper back, cause I heard it is coming out first hardback).
