Conrad Wroth is an assassin, brutal, a stone-cold killer. He is a vampire who kills his prey by ripping out their throat and drinking their blood. He then acquires their memories and knowledge. This behavior is against the laws of the Forebearers, and if they catch him, he will die. He is also a vampire bent on revenge, killing the ones who turned him and made him like this - his brothers. His brothers are a part of the Forebearer Army and want to protect Conrad, from himself and from the Forebearer King. They devise a plan to kidnap him and imprison him in an abandoned mansion.
Neomi Laress was a successful ballerina, murdered by an ex-fiance at the height of her career. By the force of her will, she stays to haunt her home and site of her death. She has relived the night of the murder each month for eighty years. No one can see her - that is no one until Conrad is imprisoned there. According to his brothers, this is just more evidence that the memories Conrad retains has made him crazy - he sees and talks to hallucinations.
A ghost and a vampire...How can they fall in love? How can they consume their love? A vampire must be blooded by his Bride, the woman who will bring him to life. What does it mean that Neomi, as a ghost, can not blood him? Maybe she is not Conrad's fated mate after all? How will they overcome the obstacles inherent in a relationship between a ghost and a vampire? How will they surmount the complications that Conrad's profession brings?
I love the world the Ms. Cole has created. It is seeped with mythical creatures and folklore, but completely with a completely unique and original take. She creates wonderful characters that you can't help rooting for. Conrad is a hero to cheer for. He fights internal demon's, but still has a code of honor (warped as it is). He is demanding, a killer, and apparently crazy, and yet it is easy to see why Neomi falls in love with him. Neomi is a charming heroine. She infuses the book with lightness, vibrancy, and cheer. What I love the most about this story is that Neomi and Conrad fall in love with each other before Neomi can blood Conrad. I couldn't wait to read how she made the situation work. Clever word-play and twists in the plot kept this reader engaged until the end.
[...] The next book in the series, DARK DESIRES AFTER DUSK, comes out May 20 so fans don't have long to wait.

Customer Rating: Summary: Ten Stars************Action, Romance, Uber-Awesome Vamp Comment: I really enjoyed this book. JR Ward has to take notes, this is how you write a ghost book. Neomi was wonderful. She was happy, spirited, strong and kind. Conrad was a monster that turned into a wonderful mate. Conrad is comparable to Zsadist. Some of you know what I mean. This book has so much action, and self discovery. I loved it. The romance was sweet and sexy and thrilling. Great ending. I can't wait for Murdoch's and Rydstrom's book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Another great story from a great story teller!!!!!! Comment: I can't say enough about how much I loved this story. Kresley Cole is was of the best writers of Paranormal romance. I would say she is the best but I haven't read every author. I can tell you that this story will keep you hooked from the beginning to the end and you will never be bored. The steamy love story will also make you want to jump your mate. So watch out !!! This is one of those stories that you will keep for re-reads later.
Customer Rating: Summary: Love the Heroine and the refreshing plot Comment: This was a fun fast paced read. I found the plot fascinating. The heroine became a ghost when her jealous ex-fiance murdered her in cold blood. But, the book doesn't make her into a pitiful ghost. She is a very curious one, who enjoyed watching the people who lived in her house, and she has other quirks too.
I like how the author created these 2 immortals and explained their powers and traits. I love how, in this book, the heroine has more sexual experience than the hero, and it was very exciting. Don't worry, the hero is still very manly, and the heroine is not painted as a loose woman at all.
I love that the Heroine is very independent and secure, yeah!! And Mariketa makes a strong re-appearance in this book. The Valkyries again add their kind of fun.
Customer Rating: Summary: Give me a Lyke any day... Comment: I'm so over the tortured Vampire thing. I think Sebastain's story set the bar, which Conrad's book couldn't live up to. The madness monologing was torturous to read, and by the time Conrad started to heal, the book was half over!
Maybe it's the loyalty to their mates or the single-minded, drive but the werewolf stories are so much more endearing. Lots of sneaking in dark corners, and not enough achieving of goals.
