Editorial Reviews:

This arc of Scott Westerfeld's UGLIES trilogy follows the high-tech adventures of Tally Youngblood. As an ugly, then a pretty, and finally a special, Tally works to take down a society created to function with perfect-looking people who never have a chance to think for themselves.

Summary: Not Ugly, but Pretty Special
Comment: It was quite decent. But I turned to this book after reading other 10 sci-fi classics (in a row), including Ender's Game, Dune, and Brave New World... then as you may understand it obviously did not make the cut for me. But I'm sure it would be quite entertaining for any young sci-fi enthusiast who is looking for a light read. Westfield throws out some recycled science fiction ideas in a story that is half-way compelling. The characters at some points are not even all that likeable, and the transformations from book to book make it difficult to maintain strong personality traits on anyone except the lead (I even doubt her). But I read the whole thing, and did not throw the books out my balcony.

Summary: Loved the "trilogy"
Comment: I really enjoyed reading this trilogy. If you like futuristic sci-fi/fantasy and don't mind a somewhat gimmicky, lower brow YA writing style, this is great book to look to for adventure, thrills, interesting plot mythology, very engrossing on all counts. My one criticism would be that I hated "Extras", which oddly is the 4th book in the "trilogy". I guess he's not one of those authors that can "do no wrong" but I still enjoyed the first three immensely.

Summary: Amazing
Comment: Great series. Ignore the "young adult" label and read it. Or better yet, have everyone in the family read it.

Summary: Great series!
Comment: This series keeps you interested with new language, exciting characters, constant action and a great plot. The themes of taking care of the earth and appreciating individuality are strong but subtle. Tally, the main character, is a typical teenager with concerns that are beyond what most current teens have to deal with, but are familiar. There are times when the books are predictable, but with satisfying results. Overall, an enjoyable read. I would love to see more about Tally and her further adventures.

Summary: Great
Comment: I've never really been into YA so I was skeptical when my friend recommended it to me. However as a fan of works like 1984, Brave New World, and Farenheit 451, the utopian plotline won me over.

In short, I was glad I picked it up. I was immediately enthralled and once I got the 2nd book, I finished it in a day leaving me anxious for the 3rd release.

The Uglies trilogy is a great YA series. The utopian/govt control themes make it an intelligent cut above the rest of the YA fluff and the romantic plot in it helps keep its appeal to the average teen.

Great work!
