Customer Rating: Summary: Bette Davis' Most Under-rated Film & Her Last Comment: After a 60 year acting career, a double mastectomy, followed immediately by a dabilitating stroke, 'The First Lady of American Cinema', Bette Davis kept acting. While she was living with terminal cancer, the daughter she adored wrote a stupid, burnable book about Davis which is obviously trying to capitalize upon her mother's successful career & great name; rather than being based in truth. Since it is a slam against Bette Davis as a mother, which has long been discredited, it is so true to the character of Bette Davis, who loved to play pranks & be humorous, to leave us with "Wicked Stepmother" as her final film. If audiences can place this film in the contexts of Davis flipping-the-bird to her spiteful, ingrate of a daughter, then "Wicked Stepmother" is extremely funny & high camp. Bette Davis had no need to do this film while she was literally near death, since she had already made a very serious drama, "The Whales of August," with Lillian Gish, Vincent Price & Ann Southern, that was her obvious farewell love letter to us, her fans. Being the great actor of the 20th century in US cinema, don't dare underestimate that the Yankee Lady who made "Wicked Stepmother" after "Whales of August," did so in order to send her personal statement in-the-face of her betraying daughter~
Customer Rating: Summary: Twisted Comment: This was Bette Davis' last picture. In fact, she died before completion. It seems to run out of steam without her performance toward the end. It is very good on it's own merit. But, as a Bette Davis fan, I loved it. She is a witch who wrecks havoc on an unsuspecting household. She plays a great part, as always, giving it her all.
Customer Rating: Summary: Top 100 Worst Film List Comment: Widely considered one of the most atrocious films of the 20th Century, `Wicked Stepmother' lives up to all expectations. Davis apparently wanted the repugnant script altered before shooting commenced but director Larry Cohen refused and Davis left some weeks after shooting began, leaving Cohen to piece together the film with the already shot fragments. Davis died before the film was released.
Customer Rating: Summary: Entertaining, hilarious, exciting! Comment: I found "Wicked Stepmother" to be a delightful and entertaining movie. The special effects are good and funny. I rate this movie with 5 stars because of its humor and lack of seriousness. The only negative is that the movie seems relatively short, but still deserves a 5 star rating because of its humor.
Customer Rating: Summary: Bette Davis Is The Wickedest Stepmother You'll Ever See Comment: Even though Bette Davis is only in a small part of this film ,she still shines.
Which Witch Is Which?
The legendary Bette Davis and sensuous Barbara Carrera ("Never Say Never Again", "I, The Jury", "Dallas") join forces as two present day witches who tackle their victims with seductive style, feline cunning and plenty of hocus pocus.
This intrigiuing supernatural "black comedy" will be remembered as Bette Davis's last performance and will undoubtedly become a "cult classic"
