Summary: Why Sing When You Can Swing?
Comment: Everybody Sing is the story of an insane family (all somehow involved in show business, which makes them a bit eccentric). The youngest daughter of the family (Judy Garland), has been expelled from four schools due to her intense adoration for jazz and swing music. She has a right to; that is the type of music she excells at singing, and we get to hear a lot of it. Her parents just don't understand, so they attempt to send her away again, but she escapes so she can join a musical describing her own feelings on music.
Judy Garland is wonderful here in a very early part where her eyebrows are still plucked down and her body has not been restrained to make her look younger. Despite how different she looks, her personality and voice shine through and prove that even at this young age, Judy was a force to be reckoned with. All of her songs are sung with heart, even the one she performs in blackface, and each song is so good it is a shame it is not better known.
Fanny Brice makes a rare film appearance here as Olga, the housekeeper for the family. She is wry, intelligent, and very funny throughout. She also makes an appearance in a few musical numbers that show off her abilities as a comedienne which were made famous on the Ziegfeld stage.
Overall, this is a very fun film filled with good musical numbers and a great cast.

Comment: I used to be crazy about Judy Garland, I collected most of movies she is in. Everybody loves "Wizard of Oz", of course I love it too, but take a look "Everybody Sing". This is the real Judy I think. "Wizard of Oz" is a great movie but there is not Judy Garland there is Drothy, you see.
Judy Garland is a great entertainer and this movie is the best to see such her talent in her early days and also co-staring is very nice. I don't know Fanny Brice's performance very well but she was like born to make people laugh.
The story is as cheap as classical musical usually is, but the musical sean is so wounderful.
My favorite seans are which Judy sings Mendelssohn with swing rhythm, or which Judy sing a blues in an audition for restrant with black-face like Al Jolson, or which in a bus sean Judy and other casts sing "Down".
Oh my god! I saw it almost 10 years ago but I still remember all detail!!
If you are Judy's fan, don't miss it!

Comment: Sometimes I wonder why I enjoy these kind of movies so much. They were really just vehicles for Judy Garland. MGM was shoving her in the public's face, hoping to make her popular. But what can I say? They did it!
Although the plot is not the best, the cast makes it believable. Billie Burke is the addled, at times hysterical matron who is to star in a play her husband is writing. Allan Jones is Ricky, the prince charming in the guise of a cook. Fanny Brice is the saucy, clever Russian maid, Olga. (Watch for rare footage of Fanny Brice as "Baby Snooks.") And, of course, there's Judy Garland as the ugly duckling daughter who uses her talent for singing to save her parents' crumbling relationship.
Complete with great songs and so many unforgettable lines, "Everybody Sing" is a joyful, boisterous comedy you'll want to watch a second and third time.

Comment: I just finished watching "Everybody Sing", and could not believe that I have lived for 32 years and had never seen this one before. Judy is simply amazing. The story line almost is silly at times with it's comical scenes, but the whole movie is worth the buy to witness Judy's amazing talent. The Swing Low, Sweet Chariot piece had me mesmerized. I had to rewind the tape several times to just watch Judy perform. What an actress, singer, dancer, and an overall entertainer. If you love Judy, you will not be disappointed in this one, then of course I have never been disappointed in anything she was in, even when the story lines lacked, Judy never did.

Comment: this is a good movie judy is so cute in it the story is funny and fanny brice & billie burk funny voices makes it fun to watch it starts out with mr. medalsohn swing judy is so cute singing that number also down on melody farm & a reprise version on the bus great soundtrack & a funny movie if you love judy garland. then you gotta see this
