Summary: All eyes on Medusa
Comment: "Medusa: Dare to be Truthful" is incredibly clever and funny. Comedienne, Julie Brown plays Medusa; a spoiled, white-blonde, pop-princess who doesn't have any table manners and is obsessed with S-E-X. She's also incredibly pretentious, stuck-up, loud and demanding. Heaven invented what Medusa wouldn't do.

Sounds like anyone you know...?

I remember first watching this movie on MTV (back in the day when they actually had relevant programming) and I couldn't stop laughing. The movie follows the backstage antics of Medusa and her band of merry twits. Medusa is on a world tour and she will stop at nothing to prove that she is still important. There is nothing Medusa likes more than getting attention (either negative or positive.) Medusa absolutely loves having all eyes on her. She even takes a camera crew to her dead dog's grave; if that's not a desperate cry for help and attention I don't know what is.

Julie Brown is so on the money in this movie. She plays Medusa to the letter. Julie totally "re-invented" herself to look and sound just like the real Medusa; she even wears that horrible ponytail just like the real Medusa did.

Unfortunately, this movie is incredibly underrated. One of my good friends in Paris has actually never even heard of this movie until I mentioned it to her recently. It should have at least been nominated for an Emmy. By the way, there is a DVD release of this film available online (through Julie Brown productions.) If you're a fan of Julie Brown, might I also recommend the movie "Clueless" which she was also in.

I have actually met the real Medusa at various parties and events in NY and she behaves just like this. The only difference is Julie was able to add at least some humanity and heart to her Medusa character. Anyone that comes within a mile of the real Medusa can tell she's made up of stone.

Summary: Flawless!
Comment: Even after watching this numerous times over the years, and paying attention to every little detail, it seems impossible to find any flaws with this spectacular parody of Madonna's "Truth or Dare"! Julie Brown appears to have studied La M's nuances and mannerisms thoroughly, in order to come up with a unique, surprising, and somehow oh-so-accurate parody of her! I had already been an avid fan of Madonna's for years when I first saw this in 1994 on MTV, yet I could instantly appreciate the humor here!

The musical numbers are cleverly titled, astutely written, and have just enough melodic variation from the originals to make them standout on their own (I've often found "Party in My Pants" going through my head, along with the urge to sing it!). Medusa's sudden outbursts of rage and dismay are to die for; and the supporting cast definitely has a chemistry that convinces you "this could be the real thing"!

This film is a definite classic. In spite of Madonna's long-running reign as Queen of Pop, there have not been many successful parodies of her! Julie Brown holds the honor of delivering a knockout one that captures all the contradictions, traits, and idiosyncrasies of M that make people love and hate her! In the process, she will make you laugh hysterically!

Timeless!

Summary: Where is the DVD??
Comment: We have all been patiently waiting for "Medusa" to come out on DVD...but our patience is getting thinner than Lindsay Lohan. This needs to come out soon...as does "Without You I'm Nothing" by our gal Sandy. Both titles are among the funniest comedic performances in gay culture.
