Summary: New Rieu viewer
Comment: Am a recent startup fan with Rieu and have enjoyed two other concert CD's. The only disappointment I have with this VHS tape is that it appears to have not recorded the entire concert. Otherwise it is as good as you can get with VHS.

Summary: lighthearted and lovely
Comment: After a few minutes of introductory rehearsal footage and backstage warm-ups, this concert from Holland goes into full swing with one of the many Johann Strauss waltzes to grace "a whole evening of Viennese music".
Andre Rieu is an attractive, charismatic man, who likes to joke with his audience, but most of all, play his violin, which he does so well. He is graceful to watch and a pleasure to listen to, as is his small but fine orchestra, with its female musicians dressed in 19th century style gowns, giving the aura of another era, which is completed by the bearded pianist who looks as if he stepped out of a painting. The compositions are:
Johann Strauss: "Waltz of the Voices of Spring"
Johann Strauss: "Persian March"
Johann Strauss: "Roses from the South"
Emmerich Kalman: "Come on Gypsy"
Zither virtuoso Frederic Jenniges joins the group for 2 pieces:
Johann Strauss: "Stories from the Viennese Woods" and
Anton Karas: "The Thin Man"
Johann Strauss: "During Thunder and Lightening"
Josef Strauss: "Swallows from Austria"
R. Sieczynski: "Vienna, Vienna, Just for You"
Johann Strauss: "The Life of Artists"
Johann Strauss: "Radetzky's March"
Encores:
Dimitri Shostakovich: "The Second Waltz" (this is my favorite piece in the concert)
and a waltz medley that includes music by Geist, Kalman, Lehar and Strauss.
Filmed in 1994, this is a wonderful concert for those who like the Viennese waltz, and total running time is 65 minutes.
Andre Rieu has carved out a niche for himself in the music entertainment world that is unique in our time, and much appreciated by his many fans.

Summary: the most joyous music
Comment: I have always adored Strauss waltzes. This video has some songs in it that I had never heard before. They are all absolutely wonderful; a very happy, joyous musical treat. I saw Andre and the JSO in concert last month. The music was the most beautiful I have ever heard! His interaction with the orchestra and the audience is so different from other classical performers who are so solemn. Everybody in the concert hall had a great time. I hope other videos will be available soon.

Summary: beautiful
Comment: It's the first video of Andre Rieu. He became popular whith this video in 1994. There is some funy pieces whith Frederic Jennigues (he plays Citer)Watch him playing the "third man", theme and the "Tales from the Vienna Woods". Also, there is very well played piece like "Life of artists" "The second Waltz" and "Roses from the south". In the beginning of the video, André Rieu explains who he is. When you see him at this time (1994) and now (2000) you'll notice he made a very very very big success.
