You wouldn't know it by watching the Batman movies they collaborated on, but this smart adaptation of John Grisham's novel proves that director Joel Schumacher and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman have some talent when the right project comes along. Schumacher had previously directed Grisham's The Client, and brought equal craft and intelligence to this story about a young Southern attorney (Matthew McConaughey, in his breakthrough role) who defends a black father (Samuel L. Jackson) after he kills two men who raped his young daughter. Sandra Bullock plays the passionate law student who serves as McConaughey's legal aide and voice of conscience in the racially charged drama. Added to the star power of the lead roles is a fine supporting cast, including Kevin Spacey, Ashley Judd, and Oliver Platt. --Jeff Shannon

Summary: Book or Movie, a great story
Comment: Lucky for me I read the book before seeing the movie, because it gave so much more insight to subtle changes and mannerisms in the movie. I think that this is a very moving, wonderfully acted movie. I really enjoy watching this movie as I really enjoy watching "A Few Good Men" because there is one point in the movie that really hits you between the eyes and cries for Right to overcome Wrong.

Summary: Are You Kidding Me?
Comment: Man this movie pissed me off. SPOILER ALERT. It's a sad day in America where a man can be found innocent of a murder that everyone saw him commit. Apparently if you have a good enough reason to kill someone, then it's okay. The scene where Matthew McConaughey is talking about the little girl being tortured was just ridiculous. It had nothing to do with the case! Murder is murder, and if you're going to take the law into your hands then you have to be willing to pay the price.
Matthew McConaughey's character played the race card and used white guilt to his advantage. Somehow this is supposed to be a happy ending.

Comment: This is a great movie. The plot, the actors and the message are very well portrayed. Samuel L. Jackson and Matthew McConaughey should have won an oscar for their performance. Donald Sutherland is also terrific in this movie. I will watch this movie again and again,
