Although "clever" isn't the first word that leaps to mind when describing Troma Films' Toxic Avenger series, the sequel to their 1985 hit has enough laugh-out-loud gags (amidst a barrage of slapstick and bodily function jokes) that should tickle the funny bones of veteran and novice Troma viewers alike. The Toxic Avenger, Part II finds the chemically altered crime fighter depressed about the lack of evil in his hometown of Tromaville. That situation is quickly reversed by the appearance of the dastardly Apocalypse, Inc., which sends Toxie to Japan after his long-lost father while they plan to transform Tromaville into a toxic waste dump. Longtime Troma fans might feel let down by the subdued levels of gore and gross-out humor found in Part II (which is possibly due to the participation of television production company Lorimar Films). But the zest with which director/Troma co-chieftain Lloyd Kaufman delivers his lowbrow laughs should allay any cult fan's concerns. --Paul Gaita

Customer Rating: Summary: "All the men we've got!" Comment: The first of several sequels to the Troma cult classic 'The Toxic Avenger' is not as good as its predessor (obviously), but has enough goofy hijinx to merit it as a minor classic in b-movie hilarity. The film tells the tale of the evil Apocalypse Co. and their plot to take over Tromaville (a great parody on the evils of big business and consumerism). They hatch a plot to divert Toxie, the only obstacle in their path, out of the city and the country in order to hatch their wicked plans. Toxie ends up being directed to Japan on a quest to find his father. Though it sags in some parts, overall it has enough hilarity and camp value to make it worth watching.
One of the funniest scenes occurs early on in the film after the Apocalypse Co. blow up the Tromaville Home for the Blind to make room for a base of operations for their plans. Thinking that they've finally "wasted that Toxic Avenger", two thugs meet a very bloody demise, whereupon the driver of the thugs' limo opens the door and a nearly endless stream of henchmen (ranging from KKK klansmen to mafia hitmen to transvestites to a HALF-MAN HALF-DOG) file out and get destroyed by Toxie.
In short, a minor classic from the Troma department. The following sequel, taken from the second half of the footage of this film, is barely enjoyable at all and it would be 11 years before we would see Toxie in another Toxic Avenger movie, 2000's 'Citizen Toxie', a much better film than III and a good film in its own right. Recommended!
Customer Rating: Summary: Not essential, but fun anyway Comment: Who wouldn't have guessed that Troma would take their crown jewel "The Toxic Avenger" out for another spin? Originally filmed with part 3 as one cohesive movie, Toxic 2 is the first half of the creation and the better one. Die hard fans of the original may find themselves disappointed with this follow up. Toxie has an all new look, personality, even the character's names were changed. Moreover, Toxic 2 goes much lighter on the trademark gore that made the original a classic. Instead it goes MUCH heavier on the humor, in fact the spine of my old VHS copy actually reads "comedy".
In this chapter, Toxie has rendered Tromaville crimeless and has grown discontented with his role as a super hero. Meanwhile, the evil Apocalypse Inc. has formulated a way to destroy Toxie's "Tromatons", however it is located in Japan. Toxie's corrupt psychiatrist tricks him into believing that his long lost father is residing in Japan to lure him into the trap. Toxie then embarks on the journey to find his dad. Does this sound silly yet?
So needless to say this wasn't quite as well thought out as the simplistic plot of the original. The plot is filled with holes, and the ending completely discredits the events of the movie anyway. Even as the unrated cut, the gore is very minimal and even less convincing than in the first. There is an amusing 10 minute fight scene in the beginning, but you're definietly not going to encounter anything as impressive as the head crushing scene in the original. However there are quite a few moments that are genuinely funny, and the film is pretty enjoyable. This is by no means essential viewing, but if you like Troma or Toxie, it's worth a look.

Customer Rating: Summary: Toxic Avenger Part II Comment: First off all, the dvd of The Toxic Avenger Part II that you can buy individually, although labeled unrated directors cut is exactly the same as the R-Rated version that was originally released from Warner Bros on VHS.
Melvin, had destroyed all of the evil in Tromaville until Apocalypse Inc moves into town. Apocalypse Inc. wants to take over Tromaville, so they devise a plan to get the Toxic Avenger out of Tromaville long enough for them to take over the town. The Toxic Avenger is sent to Japan on a quest to find his father. In his absence the people of Tromaville have no choice but to do what the Apocalypse Inc want them to do. Of course once the Toxic Avenger returns he takes on the Apocalypse and runs them out of town. The Toxic Avenger Part II is nowhere as good as the original Toxic Avenger, but it is far from terrible. If you loved the first one you should at least like this one. 3 stars!
Customer Rating: Summary: Inferior to the original but good cheesy fun! Comment: After the original movie, mutated superhuman hero Toxie (Ron Fazio) has been saving the town of Tromaville lately and works for the Tromaville home for the blind with a new girlfriend named Claire who's also blind. However the greedy chemical company known as "Apocalypse Inc." conducted by the evil chairman has plans to take over Tromaville as Toxie goes to Japan to find him. Over there he must find his long lost father that he hasn't seen in a long time, meanwhile Apocalypse Inc has taken control of Tromaville and it's bad news for Toxie, can he find his father so he can return to save Tromaville or will he fail?
Although inferior to the original cult horror action comedy classic, it still provides good laughs and nice splatter here. The acting is laughable as the usual Troma movie and so is the writing, what's missing is the original blind girlfriend Sarah from the first movie but suddenly they replaced the character with a new blind chick named Claire i dunno why and some of the charm that made the original a great horror comedy. Neverthless it's a funny movie but doesn't hold a candle to the first one and "Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger part 2" even though there are some nice hot chicks in this movie.
The DVD contains the unrated uncut version has good picture and sound with some good extras like introduction by Troma founder/Toxie creator Lloyd Kaufman, interactive tour of the Troma building, audio commentaries, Toxie 2 on Japanese TV clips, still gallery, trailers to this and other Troma releases and scenes of Tromaville Cafe.
