Customer Rating: Summary: Great CD! Comment: This is a great cd that shows Kathleen Battle's true musical ability, as well as that of Wynton Marsalis! I highly recommend this to any lover of classical music!
Customer Rating: Summary: No Rating! Just a Blooper Alert! Comment: I came upon this CD while browsing for recent performances of Alessandro Scarlatti. Hey, the notion of soprano Kathleen Battle battling jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis for stylistic high ground sounded like fun, so I clicked the MP3 samples....
If you do the same, you'll find that there's an ensemble loose among humanity, called Battle, making music that's neither baroque nor Jazz.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent! Comment: I had heard of this album in 1992, and since then I had not found it available in Brazil. Fortunatelly, I've got it through Amazon now. Despite of the fact that it is not played in the strict baroque style, Battle/Marsalis are great, brilliant, and they turn the difficult duets into delightfull virtuosism. The duets were very well selected, and some I did not know until now, which are also wonderful. This is the kind of CD anyone would enjoy, and I do recommend it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent pairing of trumpet and vocals Comment: Although I'm not a huge Baroque fan, Battle and Marsalis do a great job of bringing out the beauty of the voice-trumpet pairing. It really is a must-own for all classical music lovers.
Customer Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Comment: Spectacular display of brilliance and harmony. Truly, two masters of their respective disciplines melding together to display flawless virtuosity. Wynton Marsalis not only tames the piccolo beast, but somehow expertly mimics the human voice. And not just any voice, but the bright edgeless tone of Kathleen Battle. If you love Baroque, at any level, this is a must buy!
