Editorial Reviews:

Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in The Hood wants desperately to be an Airplane-like parody of inner-city African American gangsta movies. Instead, it offers us more turkey than we would find at any Thanksgiving spread. Unfunny, stereotypical, stupid, and crass, it was cowritten by Marlon and Shawn Wayans, both of whom should have known better. The two fare better as actors than writers, as they are almost amusing as hardened, dimwitted homeboys. As Ashtray, Shawn returns to his 'hood and hooks up with his best buddy (Marlon) before the two embark on a series of oh-so-wacky adventures. Siblings Keenen Ivory, Kim, and Craig Wayans also make appearances. If you really want a laugh, watch Booty Call. --Rochelle O'Gorman

Summary: Hilarious!
Comment: We laughed hysterically at this movie. The blacks making fun of their own kind made it so funny. It's nice to have it in our library to watch when we've had a rough day at work & want to laugh for a change. We can watch it over & over & still laugh. I recommend it for everyone's psyche.

Summary: Silly As Silly Gets
Comment: This movie is for those who enjoy slapstick or have a real silly side. If you don't have that urban sense of humor, you probably won't like this movie.

Summary: Only if you're a Fan of Gangsta rap, etc.
Comment: If you're not a fan of old school gangsta rap & hood films. This movie isn't up your alley b/c there isn't anything intelletual about it's satire & humor. You could appreciate the acting performances especially the Wayan's brothers & I guess the whole black stereotype in general but if you ain't down wit that then...it sucks. Personally it's an easy watch b/c it's short like all comedies (the average 2 hour movie length weighs on me to watch movies on a consistent basis, I have my phases but that's it) & I'm a big fan of all the black gangsta stuff so when the gang/hood ethics & lifestyle are presented in a comedic fashion. I can get a good/fun laugh even though you don't have to have brains to match it's intellect. If you like fun movies that aren't the most well made in fact cheeze & sillieness & care for the subject matter, then this will be a good rent. Buy it if you're a fan of the subject matter & my last sentence.

Summary: Scary Movie in da Hood
Comment: After watching the featurettes on this, and finding out this a parody of hood movies like "menace to society" and "Boyz in da hood" etc... well, I gotta admit, I have never seen those movies. But this movie may be parodying those films, but the comedy of this movie is good enough that you do not even need to have seen those movies to have a good laugh at this film.

Even tho I haven't seen anything it's parodying, I still give it 4 stars for being funny as hell.

The Wayans brothers deliver another great comedy like Scary Movie, and this one is definitely better then White Chicks and that baby one with the midget.

It's just hilarious to see them poke fun at hood fashion, lifestyles, and gang wars. It's refreshing to see a cast of African Americans not afraid to poke fun at themselves and deliver some classic comedy moments.

It's like Scary Movie, it's not a family comedy, unless you're the Osbourne's. But it's a highly recommended must see DVD.

::plot::
the clean good lookin' boy moves to the hood and wants to make something of himself to get out of the hood, along the way he is mixed up with his cousin who is "spethshall" and all there goofball homies.

Not much of a plot, but it's the comedy is there, and it's a must see for all comedy fans of whacky zaney parody movies. And even if you don't know what there parodying, it still holds up being funny as f^%$

Summary: Great spoof movie.
Comment: If your going to do a spoof movie, you have to have the Wayans in it. Taking a lot of In Living Color humor into spoofing all the 90's black movies is great. Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, Poetic Justice, Boyz N the Hood, Higher Learning and more are all lampooned. Very Funny
