Customer Rating: Summary: The Singing Nun Comment: The Singing Nun has been charming people for years now.... I began enjoying her pure and angelic voice long ago when this recording first came out..And it still represents to me such enjoyable little songs written by the French nun herself who fashioned and sang them in a wonderful little folk-like style...She sang them to the chidren with whom she worked and cared for in her village convent...I'm certain that these children will never forget all the joy this gifted woman with her pure and simple voice provided for them..Now, as before, she brings back memories and MORE JOY for Me each time I listen to her refreshingly pure voice and her melodic and ditinctively FRENCH songs..
Customer Rating: Summary: It was in French Comment: I guess I did not notice but the cd is done in french. I still enjoyed the music and I could make out some words. Took French in College but got a D.
Customer Rating: Summary: nostalgia hits again Comment: My father had a copy of the original pressing of this album and there was a time when I played it every day. The melodies are charming and the lyrics -- simple, but poetic. Dominique may have been the catchy hit, but there are several others -- slower ones -- which move me in a way that it doesn't. Between the Stars and I Should Like to Be remain evocative to this day. For unpretentious, gentle, introspective music -- regardless of your theology -- the ill-fated Soeur Sourire still sings you into a sunny place.
Customer Rating: Summary: Singing Nuns Rock! Comment: The reason I decided to purchase this DVD is because when I was a young girl in New Orleans, I played this album every night as I drifted off to sleep. Only the title song, "Dominique," hit the charts at #4, I believe, but every single song they recorded was divinely beautiful. The words, melodies, concepts, their wonderful voices - it was all like a dream.
I experienced some trepidation before playing it when it first arrived, though. I thought, are my memories of those beautiful songs more lyrical than they actually were, in reality? But from the moment the music began, it all came rushing back to me - many passages in French, which was astounding - and I play it all the time now. Even my daughter, Grace, is walking around the house singing little snippets of these lovely songs praising God. The Singing Nun is a joyful album and if you want your spirits to rise, put it on and you'll see what I mean!
Long live Belgium!
Customer Rating: Summary: This is Wonderful Music Comment: As a little girl, I listened to this album (vinyl -- original release)almost every day. I had no idea that it was famous, or the story of "Sister Smile", just that I loved the comforting beauty of the music. Being born in 1974, I don't recall much in the way of music that existed specifically for kids -- I listened to my parents' old 45's (Beatles and R&B) and Dave Brubeck. Anyway, this music was like that for me; soothing and uplifting, and innocent. I had NO idea that it is available on CD, and I am thrilled. I thought I was going to have to search through my parents' house to find it for my children -- you can never be exposed to a foreign language too early!
