"Labor of Love Childbirth Class" is the ONLY Complete Lamaze Class reflecting obstetrical care in the 21st Century!

Newly updated and digitized in 2002,"Labor of Love" is a unique experience in childbirth education that prepares you for labor and delivery according to obstetrical procedures used today!

"Labor of Love" provides a workbook and over "4 hours" of detailed instruction that takes you from the unknowns of childbirth into practical applications that will work for you! There are other videos on the market today that cover the topic of childbirth in a shorter amount of time but do not provide the level of detail or updated information that is relevant in the delivery of obstetrical care today.

The success of this video series is evident in that it has been widely accepted by both private and military hospitals and the national support group for bedrest mom's "Sidelines" as the "GOLD STANDARD" for mothers unable to attend hospital based classes. Childbirth Educators, Women's Health Centers, Homes For Unwed Mothers and Physicians recommend this video to their bedrest mom's. Nationwide, many libraries have added this video series to their childbirth resource section.

Topics include: Third Trimester Experiences, Physiology of Labor & Delivery, Stages & Phases of Labor, Medical Interventions, Comfort Techniques, Medication-Epidural, Breathing Techniques, C-Section & VBAC, Postpartum Mom

Summary: Informative without scare techniques!!
Comment: This video was AWESOME!! Sherry Turney the instructor is so down to earth and real that you feel like you know her! I learned so much and I feel like she presented all of the material in a way that was really open and not intimidating or scary. I HIGHLY recommend this video. I wish Sherry lived close to me because I would love her to help my husband and I on our big day. This video is a must see for first time moms!

Summary: After seeing all that's out there:
Comment: Due to timing problems I was unable to attend regular childbirth classes. I bought and watched every Childbirth class I could find. Labor of love, although not the most popular, was the most informative. This was esspecially true for my coach! The massage techniques were wonderful (Add some cocoa butter and make the touches -firm-) I would have never gotten through without them. Unlike alot of the films out their, Sherry (I admit she -does- have an annoying voice) gets down on the floor and shows you what shes talking about...she dosen't use those pelvis models alone.

Summary: Buyer beware of whom?
Comment: Hello All,
Very seldom do I take the time to respond to arrogant people with no knowledge of childbirth. As the manufacture of the video I thought it was important to let you know that some people write comments when they have actually never seen the video, are competitors or in the case of John Maloney and his east coast friend, were caught and sued for pirating our video on ebay. Hateful people. Please remember when reading buyers beware comments, why certain people write things. We have been told the video has been very helpful to those unable to take classes, mothers on bedrest and also helpful for those wanting to learn 12 birthing positions including those on a birth ball. We still encourage going to class and having hands on learning. The video is an alternative. It is recommended by the National Organization Sidelines, CAPPA and distributed in hospitals, clinics, and libraries across the nation. Our goal is a realistic picture of birth. We share with parents your options so that you can make educated decisions what is right for your family. Birth is the hardest thing that a woman will ever go through in your entire life, but it is the most rewarding, especially when you welcome your baby. I wish you the best as you choose your options in childbirth. Please accept my apologies for those dishonest people. As a certified instructor, 15 years experience and known as an expert in my field, I believe I am familiar with the material. My heart made this video as an alternative and to help make a difference in the birth experience. It has made a difference out their and for that I am thankful. Best wishes on your delivery.

Summary: Worth renting
Comment: I'm not sure I'd spend $50 retail on this video, but it was worth renting from my local library to get a good overview of labor and delivery. On the downside, the video/sound quality is somewhat poor (as many other reviewers have noted). Also, I wouldn't let this video be your sole authority on what labor and delivery are like. A few times, the instructor said something that didn't sound quite right to me, in comparison with reading I've done. For instance, she advises husbands to massage their wives' feet. That might be OK during labor, but I think a foot massage can induce labor and so shouldn't be done throughout pregnancy. The instructor doesn't point that out, though.

On the upside, the instructor is very down-to-earth and seems very natural and experienced in describing what labor is typically like. Also, this video was good for demystifying C-sections for me. For awhile, I'd been thinking "I'd rather have a C-section than do things 'the old-fashioned way,'" but after watching this video, I can see that a C-section might be harder on one's body than a vaginal delivery. So, I think I got a more realistic view of what I might experience a couple of months from now by watching this video.

Furthermore, the video must be doing something right if it kept my husband's attention -- I didn't think I'd get him to sit through it, but he watched it till the end with me.

Also, I liked the segment at the end which shows "post-birth" pictures of the people who attended the class along with their little bundles of joy. My first reaction when watching the video was "What have I gotten myself into? How I can handle this?" And, of course, in watching the video, you can see the people in the class look intimidated at times, too. So, it's nice at the end to see that they and their babies all made it through the experience just fine, and that I should be able to do so, too.

Summary: Disappointment!
Comment: After examining all the information currently available on Lamaze, this video is very outdated and inaccurate! They were correct about some of the procedures, but please do your research prior to deciding to spend money here.
