Dan Fogelberg's first Christmas album is a smartly informed collection of familiar holiday hymns, carols, and deliciously original music inspired by the Renaissance period. The standard interpretations such as "I Saw Three Ships" and "O Tannenbaum" prove satisfying and enjoyable. "At Christmas Time," a Fogelberg original, sounds as if it were lifted from Dickens's A Christmas Carol, while the peaceful and bright "Winterskol" and other simple guitar pieces make The First Christmas Morning a truly great holiday find. Extra points to Fogelberg for unearthing such beautiful music as the 15th-century carol "This Endris Night." Recommended. --Martin Keller

Comment: I really enjoyed this Christmas CD. Not real crazy that Amazon took over 3 weeks to get it to me but once I did recieve it was nice to hear some of Dan's Celtic flare he showed in this traditional Christmas CD.....

Summary: Let it Shine!
Comment: Today marks 1 year since we lost this great artist to cancer. As a longtime Dan fan, I have had this CD since it was first released, and it is by far my favorite holiday disc. Last year, I couldn't bring myself to play it because we had just lost Dan, but this year I am again enjoying it and remembering what a truly gifted and feeling man Dan was. I recall seeing Dan perform "The First Christmas Morning" in the middle of summer in LA the year this was to be released, complete with mini lit tree on top on the piano. What a joy it was to hear and when the CD came out, it surpassed my expectations. Leave it to Dan to bring us something completely different and refreshing. His take on traditional songs makes them sound original, and the originals and instrumentals create exactly the right mood for enjoying a glass of wine by firelight. No boring Jingle Bells here.... Buy this now.

Comment: I have ALWAYS loved Dan Fogelberg and he loved Christmas. These songs are exquisite from the traditional songs to his own compositions and lovely instrumentals! They have a unique Renaissance feel to them. I will cherish this album for years to come!
