Especially the rich documentation is a plus: the documents included on the disk are a considerable merit of this package. On the other hand, if you do not already know the basics of the Mac's operation, you soon are left with questions concerning the sample programs' composition, inspite of the step by step nature of the sample documentation. Often, the authors refer to the Toolbox of the Mac. If you are a novice concerning the Mac's background, you really should familiarize yourself with these topics. You could do that by studying the documents on the Apple developer's site. There you can find a document like the Acrobat-pdf version of Macintosh Toolbox Essentials (909 pages !), that will give you the opportunity to learn what the Mac is all about. Then, a package like VIP-C will really pay off. Nethertheless, even without much background you can start programming by using the sample programs as a skeleton.
