No skewering the meat with a three foot rod, just set the meat or large vegetables in the basket and tighten the novel clamps to secure the food. I can easily cook two large chickens in this 6" (wide) basket but if you want to cook a turkey, Weber says the 8" can accommodate up to a 12 lb turkey.
The motor is quiet and reliable. My only complaint, and it is really minor, is that another clamp or two would make it easier to cook more, smaller items. I was able to secure a 5lb pork roast using the easy to tighten clamps and the roast never budged during the 3hr cooking period. My only complete is that for the price, why doesn't Weber design the product so that it can be easily converted from the basket to a standard rotisserie.
