Customer Rating: Summary: Classic... hand's down... Comment: This movie is an classic hood flick thats a "Must Have." Well put together, and well directed. Plot is flawless. This movie is also very hard to find in stores
Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing Comment: This movie is an overlooked piece of incredible storytelling and film making. It pulls no punches. It's cast very well and little Sean Nelson is absolutely mesmerizing in the lead role. Sam Jackson gives a solid performance and N'Bushe Wright is a revelation as the older sister. This was also the height of Giancarlo Esposito's career in my opinion.
The direction is top notch, the plot is tight, and the outcome will leave you stunned. It's a film you'll never forget.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Tale of Revenge and Escape... Comment: .
Basically this is a tale of revenge and escape: virtually a retelling of Poe's "Hop-Frog."
(Too, cf. Richard III Richard III - Criterion Collection.)
The hero is a facile-tongued Negro boy. The conceit is the chess game.
Though the plot has as many holes as a sieve, nevertheless it is enjoyable fiction.
The bad-guys are done down; the good-guy comes out the other side with his queen smellin' like a rose.
Ugly urban environment; Giancarlo Esposito is ripped with low body-fat.
Despite all this: the film is powerful.

Customer Rating: Summary: One of the best movies EVER made Comment: This is an excellent film all around. It is one of the few films I have seen that has had a deep and lasting impact on me.
Customer Rating: Summary: An incredibly clever and original film. Comment: This film is much better than the generic "urban films" that glorify the degenerate and violent hip-hop culture of the inner-city. Fresh is a sad story about a very intelligent kid who is stuck in a horrible world in which those he loves are sometimes killed for no reason. He survives in this world because of his street-smarts and maturity. The fact that the soundtrack does not contain Hip-hop music allows this film to be taken seriously. Fresh is very fresh and original and should be viewed.
