Editorial Reviews:

An all-star cast has joined forces to produce a wonderful CD and, if that weren't exciting enough, a portion of the proceeds will help restore music education in the U.S. public school system through the VHI Save the Music Foundation. Clever new renditions of familiar Muppets and Sesame Street tunes abound, but Semisonic's Dan Wilson, ex-Del Fuego artist Dan Zanes, Toad the Wet Sprocket's Glen Phillips, and Bleu wrote songs for this album, and Tom Waits's lullaby "Bend Down the Branches," originally recorded for a short film, makes its debut on this CD. No offense, Kermit, but the frog's 1979-vintage "The Rainbow Connection" never sounded so sultry as Sarah McLachlan's version here. Another favorite is "The Hoppity Song," a rock & roll ode to Five for Fighting frontman John Ondrasik's son Johnny. Make no mistake--this isn't one of those CDs that is more for adults than kids--songs about hygiene, the alphabet, and crying ("It's All Right to Cry" originally from Marlo Thomas's Free to Be You and Me) are truly "for the kids." That said, adults will enjoy hearing their favorite artists switch gears in this gentle (mostly, not Bleu's energetic "Snow Day!"), upbeat compilation, which combines just the right blend of familiar sing-along songs and exciting new material. The booklet doubles as a foldout coloring book, with illustrations for each song. A fun and noble effort for a fun and noble cause. --Karin Snelson

Summary: Not as great as I had hoped
Comment: I bought this album because I like a lot of the artists that contributed. I ended up only really liking a few of the songs. My daughter, who is five, thinks it is "sad songs." Maybe it is geared for older kids. I recommend listening to all the clips before buying to make sure it suits your taste. I clicked on one, loved it, and found out it is the only song I love on the whole thing!

Summary: AWESOME CD!!
Comment: I don't have kids and I still LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this CD!! I am a 4th grade teacher and thought the kids might like to listen to some music while drawing or doing craft activities. They DO love it. I find them dancing in place while standing and painting. I also find myself listening to the CD when there are no kids around. Sarah McLaughlin's "Rainbow Connection" is great...."Mananana" is better. The "La-La-La" song is the best!!!!!! I can't wait to have kids so I can play it for them.

Summary: I enjoy listening - even without the kids
Comment: This is easily my favorite kid's album. My kids have grown with this album, they are now 5 and 7 and it is still their favorite. I'm not even sure how long we've had it - but I think at least 4 years. "The Hoppity Song" has been a family favorite since we bought it. They still scream to play it "one more time!" and I never mind doing so. My son's current favorite is "Snow Day" - he is in school now, after all. I love the mix of rock, folk, and classic kid tunes done with a twist. I recommend this to anyone that came of age as an "alternative" music fan, and is afraid to get children's music. And anyone that grew up with the early days of Sesame Street has to hear the Barenaked Ladies doing "La, La, La" - it still makes my husband and I laugh. BTW, the original is WAY better than the sequels.

Summary: Deserves its five stars
Comment: This album deserves all the accolades it's received here. It's upbeat, amusing, entertaining, and not cloying. Love The Hoppity Song and La La La La Lemon best, but all tracks are good. Well, perhaps except the last one. Bend Down the Branches seems out of place and a bit pointless to me, but it's short. This CD is definitely good for the whole family.
