Summary: Boring layouts, unappealing articles
Comment: Our gift subscription to Filipinas will soon be up and we will not be renewing. I've read Filipinas over the years and have been frustrated with the magazine's lack of trying to appeal to a wider audience of Filipino-Americans. This magazine is definitely NOT for all filipinos. It's really geared towards filipinos that have moved to the US recently or have becomed naturalized citizens here.

I, myself, am a Filipino-American and have never found anything in this magazine that I truly could identify with. I've been reading this magazine off and on for the past 16 years. The layouts in the magazine are STILL the same. I am very sure there are many talented filipinos in publishing these days and you would think that Filipinas would try to improve on their product over the years but no.

I just think the magazine has a very narrow view on what is Filipino-American and that doesn't really involve me.

Summary: A non-Pinoy Fan
Comment: I bought this magazine for my Filipino friend and his family, but I find myself reading it just as much if not more than they do.Detailed articles and not cramed with advertisements like other magazines make this a joy to read. I guess I must have been Pinoy in a past life:)

Summary: My link to home
Comment: I've lived in the US for almost 18 years now. I have been a subscriber to Filipinas Magazine for at least 4 years and wished I had it sooner. I have enjoyed the variety of articles, topics relevant to Filipino-Americans, stories on celebrities I used to know back home or celebrities here in the US, Filipino recipes, highlights of places I long to visit back home...overall, a good value for the dollar. I've used the magazine for my children's history projects for school, and have given it as a gift to other FIlipino friends. I subscribe to a lot of magazines; copies of this one I keep...it's my link to home.

Summary: A magazine worth more ...
Comment: It may not have the glamour, the high-quality glossy paper, or excellent design work of aMagazine, but its superior coverage on central issues dealing with Filipinos worldwide, particularly Fil-Ams, and Philippine concerns more than makeup for the late delivery and its use of pitiable quality paper.

As a young Filipino immigrant to America the Magazine was and still is a source of Filipino history that I otherwise would have not had the access to. It opens dialogue and awareness to contemporary issues including, Filipino-Veteran, EDSA Dos, Airport workers, the Fil-Am vote, difficulties faced by young Filipinos, and various other significant matters.

The magazine not only initiates an awareness of Fil-Am issues, it offers the Filipino community, particularly the young, individuals to look up to. The magazine features in its monthly magazine, successful Filipinos including, Enrique Igesias, Lou Diamond Philips, Gov. Ben Cayetano, Denise Dador, the Basco Brothers and others. As a Filipino American youth, Filipinas Magazine coverage provides person to which I truly can admire.

The magazine feature regular columnist including Gemma Nemenzo, Barbara Gonzales, but I particularly like Emil Guillermo's Column which often time writes about important issues in a witty but serious fashion.

Although, I often receive my copy in the later part of the month or even the following month, probably because it takes longer for it to come to Hawaii, It's one of the few magazines I read from cover to cover. At the price of 12/year or one dollar per issue, this is probably why they can't afford to upgrade to a better quality paper, I would gladly pay double that price for this magazine! ...
