The pop charts were once regularly haunted by the melodramatic musings of pianists like Liberace, Ferrante and Teicher and Roger Williams, a sensibility that eventually gave way to the more New Age-y affectations of George Winston and his fellow Wave-format-friendly ivory ticklers. But if producer David Foster has his way, young Phoenix native William Joseph will do for instrumental piano music what the Foster-mentored Josh Groban, Michal Buble and Renee Olstead have done for classical crossover and crooner revivalism. Joseph is blessed with a forceful technique and an ear for drama (he composed the theme for his hometown NHL Phoenix Coyotes when just a teen) that recalls Williams in his prime, and approaches his material with a kitsch-be-damned, crowd-pleasing verve that occasionally invokes 1970s' prog-rock excesses (the artist's own title track and "Piano Fantasy") without apology. Bolstered by Foster's usual back-row-of -the-balcony production sensibility, Joseph tackles everything from the classics ("Ave Maria," "Eternal"'s reworking of Chopin) to Led Zeppelin (a version of "Kashmir" that's as over-the-top as the original), Kansas (vocalist Garou guests on the bathos-drenched "Dust in the Wind") and even Muse ("Butterflies and Hurricanes" as MOR melodrama) with supreme confidence, if considerably less subtlety. --Jerry McCulley

Summary: Fantastic album ! ! !
Comment: I love this CD. I purchased both Within and Beyond immediately after seeing William Joseph on Dr. Phil show. Hopefully I will see more of him on TV, as my opportunities to go to concerts are few. At any rate, I think this is a very talented young man, and hope to see a lot of him in the future. I also hope another CD will be available SOON !

Comment: This is the best CD out this year, I don't care what you say. It is so
special, the talent just oozes across the keyboard, bringing tears to your eyes.
I am so glad I am on this earth and can enjoy to the fullust his God Given Talent.

Summary: William Joseph's Excellent First Album
Comment: I first heard of William Joseph from a recent episode of Dr. Phil where I saw him perform two pieces, Beyond and Asturias. Asturias was amazing and Beyond almost brought me to tears. I knew I had to investigate this talented young man's work. I made the choice to order this album in addition to his new one Beyond, and am very glad that I did. All of William Joseph's compositions are soul-stirring, moving, heartwarming, and also at times there is an epic feel to his music. It can be very powerful, as you will see if you get either Within or Beyond. I recommend both.

Comment: This is the 'other' disc of his I purchased for Father's Day..
and I know that this one will be as happily received as the other
disc "Beyond" that I purchased. I am telling you, this young man
has a great style...he has managed to be true to the music yet put
a new twist on many songs. A wonderful gift for those who have
everything, need nothing...you know the type!

Summary: Amazing Piano Classical-Pop Fusion
Comment: 'Within' is a MUST purchase for people who like classical or pop music.---- Amazon needs to create a classical-pop fusion category for its music genres, because of albums such as this!-----There are plenty of artists who have broken into this genre now, in both singing and instrumental albums, and far more outside of the U.S..----- I eagerly anticipate the release of this young man's next piano work in less than one week!-------- For those who may be put off by having very different 'styles' on the same album, sometimes you need to re-arrange the tracks for your own listening experience.------I re-arranged the tracks to my taste for his magnificent ability to change styles and tempo., which is just what I want, but my classical 'sensibiities' often take some time to merge with my pop 'sensibilities' to where I am comfortable.------But when that does happen after some 'tinkering', all I can say is WOW!!--------and give me more of these wonderful artists who are willing to take a chance and 'fuse' genres.-------I am classically trained, and classical 'purists' will miss out if they cannot incorporate other styles into their creative listening.------This 'fusion' album is an immensely enjoyable ADVENTURE in finding a new genre!!----Don't miss out!
