Editorial Reviews:

Country Gourmet Scone & Muffin Mixes are made in Post Mills, Vermont by a family-owned and operated business - "Cook-in-the-Kitchen, Inc." Just add water! Scones and muffins are perfect dessert and breakfast treats, but be sure to pick up some maple cream, a delicious complement to homemade goodies. Package makes 8-12 scones or muffins. Recipe directions included. Easy as 1-2-3! Sweet Vermont maple with the crunch of walnuts.

Summary: Easy and delicious, what more could you want?
Comment: I have made scones with this mix about every other week for the past year. Each time is greeted with cheers because they are so delicious. We never tire of them.

I use the exact amount of water that is called for and add two teaspoons of brown sugar (more water will make it less dense and more cake like.) I grease a cookie sheet with butter then pat the dough into a circle not more than two inches high. I then take a knife and score it (rinse the knife off between cuts to prevent sticking.) Once they are just cooked through (slightly undercooked is best), I cut them apart and put them back in until they are slightly browned. Whatever we don't eat straight out of the oven, I put in a ziplock and stick in the freezer. Two minutes in a toaster oven is all it needs to thaw. Don't ask how long they last in the freezer because they go too quickly to find out!

EDIT: I made these into individual scones for the first time and they were way too dry. I didn't realize by making it into a "scone cake" and scoring it with a knife that I dip in warm water between cuts, I'm adding slightly more water than is called for. More water is definitely needed.

Summary: These are SO good!!!
Comment: I love this scone mix. It is so easy to make and the scones are absolutely delicious. I add a little extra water because they are a tiny bit dry for my taste, and if I really feel creative, I add a maple or orange glaze. The price has gone way up though and I guess you can't buy the mix by the case any more, but if you are looking for something better than a box of doughnuts to serve your guests for breakfast, these will knock their socks off!!
