I am a size 8, and I had to shorten it quite a bit (which looks fine) - so I think the M/L would probably fit anywhere between a size 6 to 12.
The style of the clasp is great because you never get the ratty-looking belt-holes, or bends in the belt that show if you start buckling it to a different size. The "hook" part of this belt just slips over the "eye" part and is very snug - it's not going to just fall off.
The clasp is also very attractive and functional. I bought this to replace a less-attractive belt on a Tahari skirt-suit that I own... But when it arrived I decided that, while I really liked wearing the belt draped over the suit jacket in a dressy fashion as I had planned, it looked just as good worn through the belt loops on a pair of jeans.

It's adjustable from the back, but you'd never know by looking. There's no ugly stretchy area. Instead it has a slide mechanism that you can't tell is there. So I can wear it loosely/draped at the hip or at the waist. You would never think that it is such a bargain. I have one in black and one in brown. It's worth your time and money. A real win-win.
