Customer Rating: Summary: Great for the money... where are the map updates Comment: I bought mine in late 2005 and am now ready for map updates. I'd also like maps for europe so I could toss it in my suitcase... At dusk it's having a hard time finding the satellites. Sometimes it takes a couple hours. I don't understand why there is a registration process at all. We should be able to plug it in and go... All in all great... jg Customer Rating: Summary: Good stuff.. Comment: The shipping came in a messy package. The car adaptor was missing. There was no way of contacting the customer service. I tried it with a converter in my car. It was amazingly accurate in giving both on-screen & voice promp directions. I didn't feel like returning it & continued to use with the DC-AC converter. The maps are great. Installation was simple.
I probably wouldn't have paid the full price...It was worth buying for $ 300.00, though it was a refurbished one. Customer Rating: Summary: Nice Hardware with somewhat outdated map Comment: Overall I'm very pleased with the GPS unit. It works nicely as my auto navigator. The software interface is also very easy to operate with little need to refer to the manual. The map, however, seems outdated for at least 1-2 years. There are times I was misguided because of that. I'd like to see another update on the map. I'm not sure if it's possible but if the GPS unit can take a 3rd party software it would be perfect. Customer Rating: Summary: Stop!! Don't buy remanufactured and Problems too!! Comment: Firstly remanufactured means missing parts. I didn't have the ac adapter. Then powered it in car. Problems the maps are outdated. The software is lousy it was already registed by somebody else and no key. The unit has problems after you turn it on and then start your car, it will poweroff, so again you have to go all the startup process. The Display is big enough but not all information can be selected on the same screen. The internal memory can hold only one state, even thought the manual say one entire region. As part were missing i called Delphi to check with them and he said rudely you got from amazon, we support only I purchased from them only.
Over all this was a waste of my time and now i returning it back.
Update:-
Amazon refunded promptly!! Thanks AMAZON.COM Customer Rating: Summary: Beautifully made, lousy nav software Comment: Delphi has made a beautiful magnesium GPS unit--it is really well made and the perfect shape for in the car use. The PC software is very good, easy to understand, and FAR better than the Magellan I currently use. However, and this is a BIG however, the actual in car nav software--the part that maps you to where you are going--is surprisingly lousy. And I am currently in Los Angeles, a pretty easy place to map.
Compared to the Magellan 300, which has much poorer PC software and nowhere near as fine a build quality, the Delphi regularly made wrong turns, got lost in loops (redirecting you to turn left, then left, then left again) and occasionally just stops reporting directions. Also, the cigarette lighter adapter is made such that it will pull out of the GPS receiver if bumped--subideal to say the least.
So overall, while better made, I have to say the the Delphi is nowhere near as effective a GPS unit at the Magellan 300--and it is about the same price. It's really a shame that one can't port the Magellan maps to the Delphi machine--that would be a match made in heaven.
