NBA 2006 brings you all the emotion and intensity of life on teh courts, in the ultimate basketball simulation. Take the point and deliver fast break passes on the fly as players run the lanes awaiting your pass. When you're playing defense, you'll get nside and feel what it's like to block a dunk - or to be dunked on. It's also got a management mode, for the full behind-the-scenes experience.

Customer Rating: Summary: Lovin This Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Comment: I love this game because of The Life. The life is so fun, but challenging too. I like it because The Kid is in a rivalry with Big W. I hate when he starts talking all this smack in his interviews. Luckily for the kid, he shuts big w's mouth in the nba championship game afteer coming back from a 3-0 record from big w. I love their soundtrack too. I like lovin this game.
Customer Rating: Summary: I Wouldn't Buy This Unless It's Used, or Just Not At All Comment: After seeing commercials and previews about an NBA game with a storyline mode, I was excited to tell the truth. I was sure it would be a fun, cool idea. Even though I knew that most basketball games that weren't made by EA Sports or 2K games were never really that good, I felt that I had to buy the game. However, this game was only a disappointment.
When you first start the game up, and you get to the main menu, you see that it's broken into three parts. The first selection is The Life mode, to the left is NBA modes, and the other is Online mode. Well, let's go to the Life mode first. When you first select it, the story opens up in movie fashion. You learn about possible draft picks in the upcoming draft and all that, and then they start talking about the "Juco Kid", which is the already-given nickname of your baller. Then you go into creating your player, where you don't have many selections to choose from for his look, but it's also a breath of fresh air from all the "Mouth Width" and "Nose Size" that many create-a-players have these days. After you've created your player, you head into Pre-Draft camp, where you'll perform drills on dribbling (like juking and spinning), shooting, and you'll also perform in scrimmages and two-on-two workouts where you have certain goals set, like getting so many points and assists. If you don't get the points or assists that you're supposed to get, whether you win the game or not, you'll redo it. After the camp, you head into Draft day. After your team drafts you, you just basically have to work your player up (he's a point guard by the way). You go through the storylines and play through the season and basically you do what the title says: live the life.
Sounds good, right? Wrong. The gameplay is TERRIBLE. I agree with what another reviewer said; you can't make All-Star players miss. It's almost impossible. But that's only a little of what is wrong with the game. I've noticed in the Life mode that if your opposing team wins the tip-off, they get it back in the second quarter. That's not right, for the team who wins the tip-off only receives the ball again in the fourth quarter; the other team gets it for both the second and third. It's not fun to play the when makers of the game can't even get that right. Also, during play, when the opposing team has the ball, your defense seems scrambled as hell. Like they don't know what's going on, what to do, or who to guard. With the player you're controlling, you pretty much have to do everything yourself. The other CPU controlled players don't help out much. Many times, other companies have worked to make the gameplay more realistic (like NBA 2K6, the best basketball game of 2006), but this game's makers took a major leap backwards.
Another thing that's not really a problem, but not a brilliant idea either. When you shoot, you have a little circular meter that helps you with your timing on the shot. If you let go when it's red, you'll obviously miss. If it's a dark orangish color, you'll most likely miss. A more yellowish color, and it has a possibility of going in. Green? Of course you'll hit the bucket. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it can become annoying to people who are used to just letting the button go when they feel they've made a perfect release. Even though I've gotten quite used to the meter and I know exactly when to let go and hit green, I would prefer not to have this feature on.
You have other options if you'd rather not play the Life mode. The NBA menu has a Season and Playoffs mode, training camp, All-Star challenges (no slam dunk though, just 3-point and skills competitions, with the latter being hosted by Thirst from the Sprite commercials), and of course playground games like 21 and two-on-two and one-on-one. Certain extras like these can be fun to play, but they don't really bring anything new, as most of the latest NBA games always add a mode where you can play streetball. Since there's not a real franchise mode, the fun kind of stops after the Life mode.
The graphics are rather choppy as well. They kind of remind me of the graphics off the older game NBA Starting Five. They have nothing on NBA 2K6's graphics or even Live's. So to say the least there's not really one stand-out feature on this game. And there's no commentary, which makes the game that much less realistic. This game would be much better if the makers worried about making a good all-around game instead of focusing completely on the Life mode. Rent this once, and see if you like it. Do not worry about buying it before you play it, you'll most likely be disappointed.
Customer Rating: Summary: This game is bad Comment: The main feature is the Life Story mode, which makes you become a Stephen Marbury clone. For that alone this game is horrible.
Customer Rating: Summary: great present Comment: i got this from my mom and i'm happy cause she knew i wanted a basketball game. and then i played it for a long time cause the mini games were fun and i had fun playing dodgeball. then i started making a player and i tried to make one that looked like me but older and then i started playing and then i didn't know that there was a story. so yeah, i'm making my player famous now and trying hard to do the right things although sometimes i do what i wanna do and that gets people mad. i like this game and i think you should all know about it since i wanna try and play people my age online
