Customer Rating: Summary: Not worth your money Comment: I bought this along with many other dvds for excercise. I am not overweight, just out of shape after last baby. I had no problem doing this work out. It was so lame. The moves were not explained (although I was familiar with them). Ordering their weight loss plan/dvd etc...was the main focus. The work out was not worth it, and since I didn't need or want their diet, it was not worth it. There are many better pilates dvds out there, and for much less. Save your money on this one. A total waste of time. There are several other starter dvds pilates, yoga I ordered and bought that I had to struggle through because of lack of muscle tone. This was no problem and I didn't feel anything.
Customer Rating: Summary: Basically the same exercises as another DVD I am using Comment: This DVD is probably OK, but decided to use another one I purchased instead. The background music is somewhat annoying at 5:15 am when we exercise.
Customer Rating: Summary: EASY to follow for beginners Comment: I have 5 pilates DVD's I ordered to try out. This is the only one that is EASY to follow for beginners! This is a slower paced DVD compared to my others, and is a great way to start!
It maybe to slow paced for intermediate or advanced pilates people... BUT it is great for those of us new to pilates!
Customer Rating: Summary: Good for basic Pilates Comment: Not quite as strenuous as I needed, but a good place for a beginner to start. Not sure how it will produce weight loss due to brevity and lack of challenge.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent, lighter workout Comment: This was my first pilates video, and I still use it frequently. It features some of the easier moves from the mat sequence and Caban explains each move clearly (I had no problem follwing, despite being new to pilates).
As I've improved, I've been able to move onto some harder videos and I also sometimes do the full 34 exercise mat sequence from memory without any video. I still use this video too. It's great for when I want a lighter workout. Also, I enjoy doing this easier video because I can really focus on engaging my powerhouse and doing each movement perfectly. Knowing more about pilates and being able to use the powerhouse more effectively (after many months of practice) actually makes this video more satisfying.
My only complaint is the pace is somewhat slow, which makes the breathing hard at times. For example, on the saw you should inhale when sitting up straight and exhale while rotating/stretching. She holds the stretch so long that I usually run out of air and have to add an extra inhale/exhale cycle before coming back up for a new inhale. This isn't horrible and you can certainly find a rhythm that works (although I usually end up breathing faster or slower than i would like), but I prefer to let the size of my inhalation/exhalation dictate how long I do each move, not the other way around. In the end, this is a minor problem.
I would say this is a great intro to pilates for a new person. I couldn't do the whole video without resting the first few times, but I got through it well enough to learn the moves and get excited about doing more. It's also good for more experienced practicioners who want to go back to basics and really focus on the principles of each movement.
