Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent product Comment: I definitely recommend once to twice a day saline rinsing to anybody with sinus problems...your sinuses will clear up quick and you'll have much better air flow and less congestion and discharge. I rinse my sinuses twice a day, and will never go back to not doing it. I rarely need to take any other medication now.
This kit is a good way to do it. The premixed packets are nice-you just have to be careful in opening them right, and emptying them completely into the bottle. The bottle provides easy flow, and the cap fits snugly.
That being said, the makers of this product are really making it hard on themselves. For one, the packaging is atrocious. Secondly, there is some sort of disclaimer that says that you should avoid making your own solution due to impurities, or something like that. This is complete BS. You can easily make your own perfectly good solution with water, non iodized salt, and baking soda, as long as you use the right amount to make an isotonic, normal saline solution. I used to do this, but I find that it's much easier to use the packets. Otherwise, since I rinse twice a day, I really would be making solution all the time. So the only reason to use the packets is convenience, but that's a good enough reason.
I definitely would recommend this product instead of the neti pots, because the flow is really much better with squeezing the bottle.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Product Comment: They really need to do something about the packaging. It looks like one of those 'As seen on TV' chintzy packages screaming - 'Don't buy me, I don't work'. On the contrary - this product works very well and is very easy to use.
For those that get the 'water up the nose into the head' effect, the following may help:
1. Relax - lean over the sink - rest your elbows etc.
2. Don't consciously hold your breath.
3. Leave your mouth relaxed and open - its an alternate path out for the excess water
4. Don't try to get all 4 ounces through one nostril in 4 seconds - slow down until you get the hang of it.
The nurse gave me the go-ahead to use this 4-5 times a day but as always you should check with your own doctor.
Customer Rating: Summary: It Keeps Its Promises Comment: I had just read about nasal irrigation as an alternative to using decongestants, when I started to come down with some sinus congestion, probably the start of a cold. Normally, I'd reach for the generic pseudoephedrine. Instead, I tried NeilMed Sinus Rinse. I read the instructions very carefully, to avoid unpleasant consequences of incorrectly shooting water into my respiratory system. Rest assured, it's easy. And once you do it, it's easy from then on. And it worked exactly as advertised. My sinuses were cleared out and soothed, and I felt no need for medication. I'm hoping that continued use will allow me to stop having to use a cortisone spray every night.
The box and enclosures are kind of cheesy, but the product itself is a winner.
Customer Rating: Summary: Definitely worth it Comment: After my first sinus infection last year I felt another one coming on. I didn't want to go back to the doctor for more antibiotics. After reading the reviews on Amazon.com I headed out to Walgreens to pick up the sinus rinse. Any temporary discomfort about using the product was quickly gone when I realized I could breathe again! I used it twice a day for 3 days straight and on the 4th day I was almost back to normal. No more antibiotics. This stuff works.
Customer Rating: Summary: DEFINITELY WORTH IT! Better than antibiotics or sudafed Comment: I have a very bad head cold. About 3 days into the cold, I had horrible sinus pressure. I got worried that I may have an infection, so I visited my doctor. She gave me an antibiotic but told me to wait 2 days before taking it and to try the sinus rinse first.
This product is WONDERFUL. What did people do before this product was around? I went from absolutely MISERABLE with horrible pressure- to completely opened up and pain free in the course of about 30 minutes.
I cannot say enough good things about this!
