Augustana's finely burnished debut again points up the contrast between contemporary American rock's persistent navel-gazing and the vibrant, back-to-the-future vibe of resurgent Britpop. The angst-ridden lyrical pleas of mainstay Dan Layus are often informed by the band's restless westward travels from its Midwestern roots on tracks like the spare "Roosevelt" and lush, mid-tempo gem of a ballad, "Boston." Yet one can almost count the modern rock influences on the album's opening wall-of-guitar conceits, "Mayfield" and "Bullets," and elsewhere, the likely residue of Train and Wallflowers producer Brendan O'Brien's aggressive studio slickery. It's to Layus' and the band's credit that the album's best moments are usually its most emotionally and musically direct, as witnessed by the moody title track, "Boston" and folk-tinged closer, "Coffee and Cigarettes." The soaring drama of "California Burning" throws all those elements firmly against the wall and damned near makes ‘em stick, ample evidence that the band has the potential to rise above the comfortably safe familiarity that sometimes seems to constrain them here. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Rating: Summary: Not bad for some boys out of Greenville, IL Comment: I stumbled upon these guys while looking up some info on the Austin City Limits Festival. They have been compared in some of their reviews to bands like Coldplay. I haven't heard much else from this group out of the small town of Greenville, IL but what I hear so far I like. They don't really have a unique sound, but they have some good tracks on this album. "Boston" is a very good song.

Customer Rating: Summary: Great CD Comment: What can I say? I love this album. I also went to see them live and they did not dissappoint!!
Customer Rating: Summary: I think I'LL go to Boston Comment: Augustana is another example of when a band takes a long time to get to the masses, because I had no idea that their album, All the Stars and Boulevards, came out two years ago. But I listened to the album and I enjoy it.
The first three songs are okay but after that you'll find highlights like "Wasteland", "Sunday Best" and, of course, "Boston". And "Feel Fine" had me doing just that. It's too bad Epic didn't promote this album very well, but it's a great album to listen to. Hopefully Augustana will continue going down this smooth road with their sophomore album.

Customer Rating: Summary: Wonderful CD! Comment: I had heard the song "Boston" on the radio. Shocked the cd had come out a few years ago and radio waited so long to play it! I was so happy that Amazon had the CD. It's in my SUV and I listen to it over and over again.
Customer Rating: Summary: Job well done! Comment: I always enjoy seeking out new music. This bands music is well thought out and well produced. It gets better with each listen. You can't pidgeon hole their style which is what I like best. It could be rock, indie, or alternative - whatever you want it to be. Take a chance and support a group that will be around for a while.
