Teen girls usually start with 1, then college girls to level 2 and then women step up to 3 and/or 4 unless you have extremely oily skin. The Clarifying lotion has a slightly cool burn feeling, that disinfects and exfoliates. It leaves your face feeling clean and clear. I get compliments a lot on how natural and clear my skin looks. I do credit clinique's 3 step cleaning system as the reason behind it along with drinking lots of water. I use the clarifying lotion 3 twice a day and the large pump bottle with last me about 6 months.
