Summary: Great for Short Hair
Comment: My hair is straight, fine, and cut in a bob. It has lots of layers in the back that need to be tamed every day. It needs a little lift too. Curling irons just don't work with my haircut. I also have a flat iron with completely flat plates, and I do like it, but it's 2 inches wide. It's difficult to do the back of my head where my hair is cut short. So I decided to try this. I'm pleased with the results and it's easier to use since it's only 1 inch wide. The plate has a gentle curve. My hair stays straight except the ends; the curve facilitates a flip. The cord swivels and hasn't snarled so far. I'd give it 5 stars if it had steam vents, just in case hair is a bit damp.

Comment: not a rip-off, however, the curved plates made no difference towards rounding out edges of a smooth style. I have better luck with my chi ceramic (2001 version) flat iron.

Comment: I recently got a haircut with more layers and my stylist used a flat iron on my ends and I really liked how it smoothed it out (I normally use a curling iron). After pricing the flat irons, I decided on this one, based on price & reviews. Also, as a first-time user, I did not want to spend $50+! It heats up FAST, straightens well, has an on-off switch and heating light. For my short, fine hair, the 1" barrel is the perfect size. I highly recommend this one as a starting point for new users.
