Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Knife Comment: I've had a lot of knives in my life but none as useful as this one. I live on a horse ranch and often have to cut something while hold something else. With the assisted opening feature I can easily open the knife with one hand. Now I use it for just about anything.
It is a little bulky to carry everywhere but that has never stopped me. The clip on the knife has broken twice but that might just be me sitting down the wrong way.
It's not useful for running around being a commando but if you have to open a knife with one hand this is the knife.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great knife, great price Comment: I ordered this one with the aluminum scales because it is slightly heavier ( 4.2 vs. 3.1 oz. ) and selling for a bigger discount ( 53% vs. 39% ) than the same knife with zytel scales. The pictures here on Amazon and on the SOG website make the knife look much wider than it really is. It looks weird in the pictures. But it is fine in person. I prefer liner lock to this type of frame lock but both work well and the assist opening is good. It has a safety that when set guarantees it won't open accidentally. The black TiNi ( Titanium Nitride ) finish is high tech and improves resistance to rust and wear and looks great. As far as the price a rule of thumb on knives is wholesale is 50% of retail so if you can buy a knife at less than 50% of MSRP you're getting a very good deal. Also, the price of the materials used in knives are all up so these bargain prices may not be available soon.
Customer Rating: Summary: Overall good knife but has some issues Comment: PROS: The aluminum handle is very sturdy and feels good in your hand. The blade opening mechanism works and enables you to open the knife quickly with either your left or right hand. A safety switch can lock the blade in place to prevent accidental opening. The bayonet clip rides low in your pocket so that no part of the knife is visible. The clip can also be removed and moved to the opposite side for use with your other hand.
CONS: The knife is a little on the heavy side and it is also fairly thick. The clip is also very tight, when clipped to your pants it takes some effort to pull out. The length of the clip is also very short. If you have short fingers it takes a moment to properly index your thumb on the thumbstud when you draw the knife. A longer clip could help in properly positioning your thumb on the stud when you draw the knife. Finally the deployed blade can be moved slightly back and forth at the handle. That is, the width of the blade is not completely snug with the handle. I have other knives from Spyderco and Benchmade and they do not have this problem.
This is a good overall utility knife but the issues I've mentioned prevent it from being an excellent knife. It would be nice if SOG offered a longer clip and if they fix the problem with the blade "wiggle".
Customer Rating: Summary: Very cool knive Comment: The assisted lift is very cool! You open the blade by barely lifting on the thumb screw and the blade flies open fast. Now that I have one for myself, I will be getting several others for christmas presents.
