Customer Rating: Summary: Quality product - this grill will not dissapoint Comment: BBQ was extremely well packaged and delivered without a scratch. Assembly was straight forward with clear English instructions. I liked how the screws and bolts where individually packaged and labeled. Grill performs quite well - ignition is instant with the battery powered electric ignition system. Well worth the money in my opinion Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent quality for the $$$$$ Comment: I purchased this grill for $299.99 - 20% discount* = $239.99 on May 2006 as my old cheap grill was ready to be retired.
*Box was damaged and was sure (after reading reviews) That I would have some problems when I got around to assembling it.
I finally got around to assembling it this week.
It took about 4 hours to assemble. Other then having to drill a few holes for the back cabinet panel to mate with the cabinet sides and having one threaded hole (front panel of side burner) that was not threaded, I am pleased. Usually, when I assemble something, I always seem to have extra parts left over. Not this time. Everything was fully accounted for. The assembly instruction were easy to read and everything was labeled perfectly.
I ended up adding nuts and lock washers to the wheel bolts as they bear all the weight and abuse from being moved back and forth. I am certain that they would looses in time.
I also purchased the Strathwood grill cover and light.
The cover is very nice addition and fits perfectly. It's made of heavy canvas with a slip resistant (like rubber coated) outer shell and a smooth underside. The light is a nice complimant to the grill too.
All in all, if I had to do it again (especially for what I paid) I definitely would buy this grill all over again. Customer Rating: Summary: Bought this Grill from the GOLD BOX deals last fall Comment: This grill sat in my garage from Oct 2006 untill this past weekend. It took me a couple hours to put together as I took my sweet old time but the instructions were easy to read and everything was labeled very well. I bought it for $429 shipped to the door and for the money it is FREAKING AWESOME! Quality is outstanding and very nice craftsmanship for a stainless steel grill! I do not know about reliabilty but only time will tell. I would recommend this grill 100%, as for the guy who lives in the apartment? He probably should not have this huge grill on his balcony anyway due to fire code restrictions. Customer Rating: Summary: Great Grill, Great Price -- Read to help find missing parts!! Comment: I got this grill last year when Amazon had it marked down to 300 and free shipping. There were no issues shipping, and almost no issues building it. I was missing a part, however. The top of the cabinet is supposed to have a piece that spans the cabinet and has two magnetic stops for the cabinet doors to latch to. Mine was missing or so I thought. The piece wasn't vital to the operation so I just blew it off and started using the grill...well, I found the missing part after a couple of times using the grill. The magnets had stuck to the grill cover on the inside front lip...not sure how I missed it, but I did. I searched for the part for over 2 hours and it seems silly now, but if you have this problem don't forget to check inside other parts for what you are missing.
Great grill, no problems in a year of use! Customer Rating: Summary: DO NOT ORDER THIS GRILL! Comment: Actually, that's just to get your attention. There are some things you should know, not necessarily about the grill, but about the method that Amazon is going to use to get it to you. The shipping weight of the box the grill comes in is 177 pounds--says so right on the box. Because of the weight, Amazon uses a company called Eagle Logistics to ship the grill. Apparently, according to Amazon, Eagle has some sort of insurance restriction so that the delivery of this product is "curbside" or "liftgate" which means that the delivery guy will get it off the truck and the rest is up to you. If you live in a house or a ground floor apartment this might not be much of an issue but if you have to negotiate stairs to get it to your apartment it's a problem. Even with the difficulties associated with hauling a 177 lbs. box down hallways and upstairs, it might be okay if Amazon disclosed that you were going to have to deal with it but nowhere in the ordering process does it mention this important little nugget of information. Personally, I think if they're going to charge you over $100 for shipping, the very least they can do is get the box to your door. I should also mention that the first grill that was shipped to me was damaged at some point on the slow boat from China and I was compelled to stuff all of the pieces back into the box in which came so that it could be returned, which is no small feat considering the number of pieces and the complexity of the packaging. That box still sits on my patio as Amazon negotiates with it's own internal freight shipping people on how to get it back. If you have 30 to 40 minutes per day to spend on the phone with Amazon customer service (assuming you can find the number) and the other issues don't bother you, by all means, buy this (or any other) grill from Amazon. Of course, the grill could still be junk, which seems like a very real possibility given all of the difficulties associated with getting it and the fact that Amazon is going to have to write-off the cost of the first one that was sent to me. Or maybe you'll get that one! Now that would REALLY suck!
