Gillette Fusion Manual is an advanced shaving system with a design that provides optimal performance when using either side of the razor. On the front of the cartridge, Gillette Fusion Manual features blades spaced closer together to form a shaving surface technology. Customer Rating: Summary: Another good point.. Comment: I rate these razors at the top of them all. I've used them all, and simply cannot complain about them. I used to use the Shick quattro and thought it was the best, four blades, right? Wow, what a difference. But it's not just the 5th blade that does it; they use MUCH higher quality metal for the blades, and what really makes a huge difference is that on the fusion, the BACK of the cartridge is OPEN, so that each time you dunk it for a rinse, all of the hairs come right out, and it's 100% clean for the next stroke. Those were the two major weak points on the 4 blade razors, they are closed off mostly on the back, so when you do a fair stroke, it fills with small hairs, and tapping or shaking it around in water just doesnt get it out, and it just gets worse, and worse, and worse...
Best razor ever. Make sure you wet your face at least 1 min beforehand, use a thin cream, rinse the blade often, and dry it after shaving. I've never had a cartridge last me less than 2 or 3 weeks, usually a month is the norm. I bought 2 8 packs, and they lasted me 14 months..
Anyhow, that's my 2 cents; the open back makes a HUGE difference, along with the ultra high quality blades. I have SUPER sensitive skin, and tried every blade razor but avoided shaving until this one came along. The only thing I think should change is a slight price drop, but as long as they don't go UP in price I'll keep using them for life. Customer Rating: Summary: Over-priced, Over-bladed Comment: The Gillette Fusion is Gillette's latest (as of this writing) offering to the world of manual shaving. Featuring five blades and a stunning new razor design, the Fusion is a truly attractive razor. But is it "the best a man can get"? Not for this man.
Aesthetics: 4 stars. The Fusion design is truly excellent and far superior to other razors. The handle has been greatly extended compared to the Mach 3 handle, and a noticeable amount of weight and girth has been added as well. This is a razor that will feel comfortable in almost any man's hand. The blade cartridge itself keeps this razor from getting 5 stars in my opinion. Fusion cartridges are about the same size as cartridges for the average razor for women. This will require many men to slightly alter the way they shave their faces; however, the one-blade trimmer (on top of the razor) helps a good bit.
The shave: a disappointing 3 stars. The Fusion gave me an incredibly close shave. I mean incredibly close. My face hasn't been that smooth since I was a child. I thought the trimmer worked well for its purpose. But -- and this is a big "but" -- the shave was honestly too close for comfort. After every shave with the Fusion, my face felt extremely sensitive for the rest of the day. I cannot help but believe that the 5-blade design caused the discomfort that I felt after using the Fusion. Perhaps other men will not have this issue. For those with sensitive skin (like me), your best bet might be to avoid the Fusion.
Blade durability: 4 stars. This was where the Fusion blades really shined. With most razors, I typically have to change blades once a week. With the Fusion, I used the same blade for 2 weeks with no trouble at all. The blade still felt fresh after a week, and drag was minimal into the second week.
Overall: The razor was decent. Certainly an impressive shave, but perhaps too close for some due to the unneccesary number of blades. The biggest problem with the Fusion is that the blades are insanely expensive. In my opinion, the cost of Fusion blades diminishes everything else that might be good about it.
UPDATE: Decided to give the Fusion another shot by buying an entirely new system with a new blade. Still an incredibly disappointing razor with lots of irritation. It's just one or two blades too many. I cannot say the shave is any closer than a Schick Quattro or even a Gillette Sensor Excel on a good day. Would be nice to see Gillette take this razor design, with the longer handle and closer blade spacing, and port it over to a 3-blade. Customer Rating: Summary: Faster than Mach3, but more dangerous. Comment: I got a faster shave with the Fusion, but I have to be careful going over the same spot twice as it can easily cause razor burn. It doesn't shave any closer than the Mach3. Customer Rating: Summary: One word.....Garbage Comment: It's a shame how Gillette keeps trying to grab more money from its loyal clientele especially with this piece of garbage. I got a free Fusion razor in the mail and hated it from the first day. The blade and the so called "lubricating strip" were literally worn out by day 3. With the cost of replacement blades, even purchased in bulk, what it costs to use this thing would require most people to get a second job! Stick to Sensor or Sensor Excel, does a better job and is MUCH cheaper. Customer Rating: Summary: it's simply the best razor a guy can get. Comment: With regards to the Fusion; yea, it's expensive and replacement cartidges are a total ripoff, but this razor blows away anything else out there. The Mach 3 was good, this is better. If you have a tough beard or sensitive skin, it works great. The pivoting blade contours to your face nicely.
So, how do you avoid the trap of paying for the overpriced replacement cartidges? Simple. Just buy the razor - which comes with a replacement blade - then throw it away and buy another razor when they dull. You pay only eight or nine dollars instead of the twenty plus for the stupid blades.
