Summary: Bye, Bye Mousy
Comment: Over the last couple of years I began to have a mouse problem. I have an exterminator come to my building once a month but still have an issue.

Have tried:

Poison - works slowly; still have to watch them dance around until they die and once the die the stench is awful. I have pets so I am always concerned that one of my dogs will find a dead poisoned mouse and decide it is a treat and eat it as one later did.

While outside in the yard my male Llapso (Llasa sp?) Apso found a dead mouse. As I went toward him to get the rodent, he snatch it up. After a struggle he swallowed the mouse and I flipped out! Called the Vet to see what I could do and they were of no help. Since I was not sure if the mouse was poisoned to death and/or diseased I had to get that mouse out of him. Researched and found out that Hydrogen Peroxide (3 tablespoons) would cause him to throw up. Within 5 minutes he threw up whole intact mouse. Ywwwwew!

Glue Traps - even though they were baited with peanut butter the rodents avoided them like the plague. Did catch one on a glue trap once, I think he tripped on it by accident. Still not pretty for either of us. Had to call a friend over to pick up the still live mouse that was squealing and trying to get off the glue trap. Horrific!

Found info on Victor Electronic Mouse Trap on Amazon. Researched and found that Lowe's and Home Depot carries the item in stock. Next day went to Lowe's and brought for $19.99 plus tax. Loaded them with crunchy peanut butter and went to bed. Sometime in the a.m. I hear a sizzle and look at the trap that I have placed near the entrance of my bedroom and the light is blinking green.

Wait until morning to get up the courage to pick up the trap to dispose of mouse. Firstly, you will see the tail sticking out. Yuck! Put on my plastic gloves and took trap outside to dispose of mouse. Tried to shake out of trap but you have to open the door to get the mouse out. I made the mistake of looking at the mouse - Yuck again.

Next day, I place another trap by the radiator in kitchen. Go to bed and when I get up in the morning, green light is blinking. Once again, the tail is sticking out. Yuck! This time I took the trap outside with a black shopping bag, covered the trap with the bag - opened the trap inside in the bag, dumped the mouse and closed the bag without ever having to see the dead rodent (of course I had gloves on). So in about 3 days I have caught 2 elusive rodents!

The Pro's -

-Kills rodents quick and humanely.
-No messy clean up (other than the mouse).
-If you are squeamish like me, put the trap inside a plastic bag, then open it and dump, so you don't have to see the mouse.
-Pets can't get into it.

The Con's -
-You will see the tail hanging out the back of the trap.
-The light only blinks for 24 hours so you need to put the trap in a place that you can actually see the light blinking.
-The light might not come on at all indicating that a dead mouse is in the trap. SURPRISE!
-The manufacturer recommends peanut butter. The area at the back where you put the bait is very small. I put a combination of peanut butter and 2 pieces of dog food kibble. Make sure the bait does not come in contact with the metal plates or it could wind up zapping the bait and disabling the unit providing free food for your rodent.
-After a while you will need to clean out the old peanut butter as it becomes stale and hard - this will be a pain. I think next time I will put the peanut butter on a something (maybe like a small piece of tin foil) and then place that in there for easier cleanup.
-For indoor use only; could use in a shed or garage - place on a shelf so it doesn't get wet.

Now if only someone could come up with a mouse trap that sends the mouse into a black hole so you never have to deal with another mousy!!

UPDATE: 10/14/08

Earlier this evening I had to call a neighbor over to kill a sluggish (probably dieing of poison) mouse in my kitchen. Thankfully he did the job. In the area he killed the mouse I had an electronic trap. I went to check it out and opened it and Viola! there was a dead mousy in it. This time because it was so small the tail did not hand out the back of the trap. The only problem is the indicator light did not blink. So it was a very unpleasant surprise to find a mousy in there looking quite fried.

Summary: Bad seller
Comment: Did not receive product. The seller ANTONLINE is a shame, sent the wrong item and insist that I pay to have it shipped back with no way to receive the item I purchased.
I will chalk this up as a bad place to shop including Amazon.com.
Bad experience overall.

Summary: Mice didn't go in - small opening seemed to make mice wary
Comment: Never caught a sincle mouse with this model from Victor -- I believe the small opening seemed suspicious to them and they stayed away. (Mechanical traps with small openings also don't work -- no mice in them either.)

I replaced it with one of Victor's electronic rat traps that has a much bigger opening (to a mouse, it seems like a cavern), and started catching mice immediately -- until it broke after 6-10 mice. The replacement also stopped working after about the same number of mice. (See my review on those.)

Summary: Patience is a virtue
Comment: Well, it's been 3 years in New York City with no rodent issues so I guess I was due for one. We called the exterminator who gave us the poison boxes and glue traps...but after weeks nothing. So out of desperation I bought the electronic trap at Rite Aid and set it along the path we saw the critter run....nothing. Then, all of a sudden it started chowing down on the poison under the sink....still nothing in the electric trap. After 4 nights of cleaning up poop and poison under the sink I decided to relocate the electronic trap to under the sink. Today I came home from work and had a blinking light and a tail coming out the hole...viola. Patience and trial and error with where to put this think seem to be key! He also didn't die gross...which is easier on my conscience.
