Customer Rating: Summary: Sheer Foundation Comment: I don't know about color matching, but this foundation is very sheer -- which is probably at least part of the reason why it seems to match skin tones. Because it is sheer, it gives a very natural look. It is not oily. It's not heavy enough to cover up trouble spots, so you will need concealer in addition. I finish with pressed powder and the coverage is just fine. I like the fact that it is hypoallergenic and my skins seems to have improved since switching to this product. Also it seems not to stain my clothes orange . . . Customer Rating: Summary: Ready for something new? (AND amazing??) Comment: I'm a shopper with brand loyalty, but every so often I must try something new. Based on commercials and other reviews, I decided to give Almay Smart Shade Makeup with SPF 15 a shot. I sometimes have to spend time in the sun because of my work, and that protection is of great importance to me.
What I got was more than protection -- I got an outrageously good color match that even looked natural on me out in the bright sunlight. Best of all, I didn't have to use lots of the product to get good coverage. That's an amazing bonus in heat and humidity that can make cosmetics feel like you're wearing a cup of pudding on your face!
If you're looking for a natural glow with good coverage and protection, Almay has got a great product for you. I highly recommmend it! Customer Rating: Summary: One the best today Comment: My husband gave this gift to me. I must tell all that it is one of the best foundations sold in the market today. It is white in color until it is applied it takes on the color of your skin. It lasts long, give face an instant glow and smooth coverage as make up. One should go ahead to buy this product. Customer Rating: Summary: Save your money. Comment: I bought this stuff hoping it might really work, but skeptical nonetheless. I bought it in "light/medium" (which, I think, fairly describes my skintone). I was intrigued when the product did indeed emerge from the tube in a colorless state. Excited, I rubbed in on my wrist as a test. As I rubbed it, it turned to sort of an orange-tinged color, way too dark for my skin. I then rubbed the product on a piece of tissue paper and, lo and behold, it turned the exact color it did on my skin!
"Tony!" I called to my fiance. "Let me rub this makeup on you." His skin is slightly darker than mine, yet the makeup turned the same color on his skin as it did mine.
Now very skeptical of this product, I proceeded to squeeze out a bit more and examined it in its colorless state under a bright reading light. I noticed little tiny darkish flecks. My HYPOTHESIS (I'm no scientist) is that the makeup in its colorless state contains little beads of dye that will most likely turn the same color no matter whose skin the makeup is rubbed on to. This would explain why it was the same color on myself, tissue paper, and my fiance.
I have written to Almay regarding this matter and they said I can mail the product back to them for a gift certificate. I plan to do so ASAP.
The verdict? Save your money. Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing!!! Comment: This stuff is INCREDIBLE. I would give it 10 - or even 100 - stars if I could. I can NEVER find a foundation to match my skintone - I'm part-Sicilian and have an olive-ish undertone to my skin, so most foundations make me either white or orange. I decided to give this stuff a chance after seeing the commercial on TV, if only to see how it worked. I decided on the light/medium shade since I've read that the biggest mistake women make when choosing a foundation color is miscalculating how light their skin really is. I figured if this stuff was smart enough to figure out my shade, it wouldn't matter too much if I went a little darker than I thought I needed. (The cardboard packaging says this shade is best for you typically wear a neutral, nude, beige, or sand shade, I believe it was.)
I have got to say this stuff is, bar none, the BEST foundation I have EVER used. You don't need a lot, you can use it where you need it and not where you don't (the apples of my cheeks, my nose, and my chin are my worst areas, so I can just blend it up towards my forehead and out towards my jaw and not have to do a full application).
I would classify it as a light-to-medium-coverage foundation, so if you have any larger imperfections or dark spots, I would use concealer on them first, then put this stuff on. It also does not leave you flaky, dry, cakey, or shiny, and it minimizes your pores, which is GREAT. It also doesn't feel like you're wearing anything, and leaves your skin feeling soft, not tight or dry. This, a little powder to set, and I'm good to go for HOURS!
I have tried literally just about everything on the market from just about every major - and some minor - makeup manufacturers: tinted moisturizers, powder foundation, creme-to-powder, liquid, spray-ons, "no-color" foundation, mineral makeup, and nothing - NOTHING - has worked this well. All of them always had at least one huge drawback - they made me shiny, they dried me out, they made me itchy, they made me break out, they made me flake, they made me look orange, they made my pores look like the surface of the moon, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. This one has none that I have found. I have not as yet broken out (knock on wood), and I don't look like an oil-slick after 2 hours, or look like I'm shedding my skin or something.
The best part was, when I brought it into work to show it off to my friend who is Latina and noticeably darker than me with a different color under-tone to her skin, I had her try it on her hand, and it WORKED. The same shade blended in just as well with her as it did with me. We were both amazed. I wish they would have made this stuff years ago, it would have saved me hundreds of dollars on all the other stuff I've tried throughout the years!
