They work together. You must not dilute the shampoo or the conditioner and if you really want to see how well they work stop using them for a while. Nothing I've found works better. One down side is that my husband's hands became very dry when he tried the products. That hasn't happened to me, but I do get a slight burning sensation when the conditioned hair lies on my back for a while...if you have long hair you might want to apply the treatment to the top of your hair and not work it through too much.
