Our Natural Long-Lasting Deodorant Stick fights odor three ways for long-lasting protection--without aluminum. What's more, the stick container is recyclable--the first of its kind in the industry! Zinc ricinoleate, a powerful natural ingredient sourced from castor beans, traps and absorbs the odor molecules produced by skin bacteria. The antimicrobial properties of the herbal ingredients of lichen and coriander neutralize the odor-causing bacteria. Encapsulated natural fragrance oils create a long-lasting, pleasant aroma that helps mask odor.
Customer Rating: Summary: OUCH! Peeling and Burning Underarms! Comment: When I first started using this deoderent, I didn't think it was working very well, but after using it for ~1.5 weeks it was definitely keeping me from smelling! Unfortunately, around the same time, I started noticing my underarms peeling A LOT! A few days later, my underarms burned badly when I put on the deoderent and I was still peeling a lot (GROSS!). I had to stop using it right then because it was too painful to put it on! Bummer because I really like the smell. Customer Rating: Summary: Ouch! Comment: I love Tom's of Maine, and I have bought their underarm deoderant fairly regularly for the last 7 years. The Long-Lasting brands however, while they smell great, cause painful peeling and redness under my arms. I don't recomend this for people with sensitive skin. Much better to buy the regular kind and reapply as needed throughout the day.
Customer Rating: Summary: No Odor and No Irritation Comment: I strongly recommend this deodorant stick.
Previously, I have used sprays because roll-on deodorants have caused irritation (redness, etc).
I switched to Tom's of Maine because it was organic, but I was worried about how effective it would be and whether it would cause irritation. After using it for nearly a month, I am glad I switched. Granted it is winter time, but it seems to be working very well in terms of blocking odor and my arm pits feel great.
Add in the fact that it is organic and it's hard to see how anyone could go wrong by buying this stuff.
Customer Rating: Summary: Peeling is a big problem Comment: The "long-lasting" versions Tom's has come out with all contain zinc ricinoleate, and for a lot of people it causes itching, burning and skin peeling on the underarms. We gave it up for another brand after 10 years loyalty, and buy the old form whenever we can find it. Bravo for getting aluminum out of my system, but BOOO for making an unusable product, Tom's. Customer Rating: Summary: Peeling underarms Comment: I wanted to get away from using the products with aluminum salts. I tried the crystal type - didn't seem to fight odor at all. I tried Sebamed's Lime deodorant, also didn't touch the odor. I bought Tom's Apricot stick because I love the smell. Seems to work great - no odor during the day at all. Unfortunately, after a week of using it, my armpits started to peel. No pain or redness (yet), just a TON of peeling - like after a sunburn. Sadly, I'm going to have to continue my search for a good natural deodorant.
