Customer Rating: Summary: Third in the Jesse Stone series Comment: Jesse Stone: Death in Paradise
This is the third movie in the Jesse Stone series (from the Robert B. Parker novels) and I must admit, my family have become big fans. Tom Selleck is looking grisled and rough around the edges (he didn't age that well), but he's still an excellent actor. The dialogue is great (I haven't read any of Parker's novels, so I don't know if this is him or the script writer), the scenery is beautiful, the acting is superb, and the music is great.
Jesse Stone (Tom Selleck) is the police chief of a small coastal town in Massachusetts called Paradise, population 55,000. Like the old Murder She Wrote series, you start to wonder just how it is that so many murders can happen in a small town, but like the others this one starts with a murder. A fourteen year-old girl's body is found in a local lake, tied to a cinder block with a rope to weigh down the body. It turns out she was pregnant and the killer drugged her, then put her in the lake still alive. Like the other movies, there are two storylines, the murder and an ongoing investigation into a wife beater. The murder investigation reveals a child molester who gets his victims from annual fundraisers he holds for a local school. Ick. "Suit", Jesse's favorite deputy, gets shot in this one.
I recommend watching the movies in chronological order (ignore the order in which they were released): Night Passage, Stone Cold, and Death in Paradise. A new movie, Sea Change, is supposedly the fourth in the series, but not available for rent yet, so I haven't seen it. The first three, however, are excellent.
Customer Rating: Summary: Tom Selleck at his best... Comment: The second of a series we recently acquired, Death in Paradise is a great find because Tom Selleck is one of our favorite actors and we own the entire Magnum PI collection. In this series a more mature but still incredibly handsome Tom Selleck plays the character of the Chief of Police of a small New England town called Paradise, Massachusetts.
Jesse Stone is a former Los Angeles homicide detective who left life in the big city and is now underemployed, but still doing service to the community, which he loves. He is divorced from the "only woman he is able to love" and battles against alcoholism.
While life in Paradise is slow and for the most part the Chief of Police only gives out traffic or parking tickets, a series of murders take place, and in this episode a young student is murdered and a wife is battered by her alcoholic husband.
Don't miss it, the pace is slow but introspective, the plot is deep and intelligent, and you are left with feeling admiration for a man that has done wrong things while always attempting to do what is right!
Customer Rating: Summary: Tom Selleck is Great Comment: I love Tom Selleck in this role. He has the Stone character down really well. Even though the character in the book is supposed to be much younger, I can't imagine anyone but Selleck in this role. He makes an alcoholic, ex-LAPD cop turned police chief the kind of police chief I would want in my city.
Customer Rating: Summary: Jesse Stone Comment: Another Tom Selleck Great Movie! For anyone considering this series, you will not be dissapointed with these movies. Action, Drama and he is still a hunk!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Selleck Stone series Comment: This is a perfect role for Tom Selleck. A little rough around the edges but charming all the same. It is a great mystery entertainment type show with Tom as a small town police chief. People are not sure about his motives for taking the job but gradually buy in to his way of running the department and investigations
