Editorial Reviews:

The Eastern Tools and Equipment 2,700 watt portable generator has a 5 HP 196 cc engine with a 3-gallon fuel tank that delivers up to 7-hours of run time. The air-cooled engine produces less than 67-decibels at 17 feet, making this generator an ideal choice noise is a consideration. An automatic shutdown function for when oil pressure becomes dangerously low is provided, and the alternator is maintenance-free for worry-free operation. The mounting between the engine/alternator feet and the base frame reduces vibration and improves durability, and the non-fused breaker protects against AC overloads. The included DC 12-volt charging system powers car and boat batteries. The generator is backed by a 1-year limited warranty.

Summary: Used twice and the pull start failed.
Comment: I purchased this item on the 15th of December 2007 from another retailer.
Took it home and fired it up with little effort.
The price was good but I was a little apprehensive because sometimes you do get what you pay for.
A few weeks ago the power was out so I started the generator up and was pleased at how well it started.
Last weekend when the snow flew again here in Halifax and I readied the generator for the possible power outtage.
I pulled the start cord and it moved freely in my hand.
It would not turn over the engine.
The store would not take it back and now I am left with a generator that has to be shipped in order to have it serviced.
I guess in the end, one really does get what they pay for.
In all fairness it is probably a really simple fix but I just did not expect it to fail after just a couple uses.
If I had used it more than twice this review would never have happened.
Maybe you will have better luck with yours.
Cheers!

Summary: not as advertised
Comment: This generator was advertised as having 120/240 volt outlets. It DID NOT
have the 240 volt outlet,Amazon replaced it with another identical
generator,so I had two generators to return.Amazon said that I would
recieve a 20.00 credit on my account for the inconvenience, I never recieved it.

Summary: It saved Thanksgiving
Comment: I hunted around and I found this generator to be the best deal around. I bought this knowing that it was on the lower end of the scale, but I only need a generator during power outages. One of the first things I noticed when it was running, was that the was that the engine sounded pretty tight. There was no rattling or knocking, and the exhaust was not really loud. I expected it to be a lot louder. I had it about twenty feet way from the house and with the door closed you could hear it running, but it was nothing that was annoying. And if you are outside you could have a normal conversation, and not need to yell.
The day before Thanksgiving we got a noreaster and that knocked out power for eleven hours. During this time I was able to keep our full sized fridge running, and run a 27" tv, cable box(Lost power but the cable stayed on woo hoo!), and two lights. The generator never even hiccuped when power was needed. I alternated between the fridge, a chest freezer, and an electric heater, as well as a toaster , and a coffee pot. We were very happy to have this generator so we could keep the Thanksgiving food safe, stay warm, have coffee, and of course tv!
I ran the generator in 40 degree rainy weather. While it was raining I kept it in a shelter away from the house ( I used my kids little tykes playhouse with the door open to vent the exhaust and a tarp over the top)to stay dry. I started after two pulls and never gave me any problems. I guess the real test will come when it is 10 degrees and blowing snow. I will update later as to how that went.
All in all I would recommend this generator. The price is right, and you really can run alot of your household stuff on it. It makes life a little easier when the lights go out.

Summary: Can't beat it for the price.
Comment: Bought this unit for camping and after it's maiden voyage I'm pretty happy with the results. Ran all weekend without a hitch and started on the first pull every time. Ran pretty strong although we weren't really pushing it. Will see how it does in the long run but it seems fairly solid.

Was getting about 7.5 to 8 hours runtime on 2 gallons. Of course, we were only running a dorm-sized refrigerator, tv, stereo system, and lights (around 700 watts give or take, 25% load). Pretty decent fuel efficiency, would be interesting to see what I would get at 50 or 75 percent load. I did test this unit with all of the above plus a 1500w heater (2200w total) and it didn't even hickup so it does seem to be able to run at least close to it's rated wattage; I didn't have enough stuff to test it at the full 2700 running watts.

For it's size the noise level is very acceptable. You can have a loud conversation standing next to it whereas with my old Coleman Powermate 1500w you had to yell. Fits the bill perfectly for us as we pretty much only do camping at Nascar tracks; out there everybody has a generator and most of them are louder than this one. Would have no qualms about running it during a power outage in the back yard.

There is a breaker that cuts power to the receptacles on and off, which is handy. There is a light that comes on when the receptacles are switched on and a low oil warning light (could have saved us on our last generator but oh well). They aren't really bright enough to see during the daytime.

Some of the pieces are kind of cheap. The starter handle broke when it snapped back after a start (lol I noticed later that it said in the manual not to let it snap back, to let it back gently). The receptacles seemed kind of tight when you went to plug something in, and I was a little worried about pushing too hard on it for fear of breaking the receptacles on the front plasic panel. After a day of moist conditions some of the stickers were peeling off.

Shipping was excellent. I needed it fast so opted for the Amazon Prime free trial and got free 2 day shipping via FedEx (take note: free 2 day shipping with fedex on a 90lb item). Ordered at 2:00am and they shipped it out the very same day. I wasn't there when they delivered it the first time so they had to lug it all the way back out the next day (haha, should have come out earlier the first day).

All in all I think it's a pretty good value. Any name brand generator of this size will probably cost twice as much (whether this one will last as long is yet to be determined). For a couple of times a year usage, I feel like it will last a while. This is THE best generator deal I could find anywhere, good job Amazon.

Summary: Mid-sized, reasonably quiet
Comment: I was looking for a mid-sized generator that wouldn't upset the neighbors with noise. The TG3000 fits the bill pretty well. Came in with small cracks on the panel; all other OK.

There were some descrepencies between Amazon, the web site, and the owner's manual. The web site and the owner's manual indicate 171CC engine; the stickers on the unit indicate 163CC. The owner's manual indicates a dip-stick on the oil filler cap; there is none. The web site indicates 240 socket; there is none (I knew before ordering).

In any case, it started easily, and the noise level is much less that a lawn mower. Not quiet enough for a busy campsite at night, but pretty good.
