The staggeringly athletic bodies of the two lead s are a constant source of visual spectacle in The Gymnast. Fortunately the movie also has a solid story to offer: Jane Hawkins (Dreya Weber Lovely and Amazing) has lost all pleasure in her life: Her gymnastics career collapsed twenty years earlier due to an injury her marriage has turned sour and her job as a massage therapist has become a rut. When she gets invited to put together an aerial act using long strips of cloth instead of trapezes Jane finds herself revitalized--and surprisingly drawn to her acrobatic partner Serena (dancer Addie Yungmee). The tentative romance between the two is sultry and thanks to their aerial routines visually captivating. The Gymnast occasionally stumbles with some obvious dialogue and unpolished acting moments but it's a strong coming-out story that gives texture and depth to its characters. The character's physical prowess ultimately becomes a metaphor for their emotional strength but the movie also serves as a celebration of female athleticism. Weber and Yungmee's bodies are assertively sexy expressing as much power as eroticism. It's easy to see why The Gymnast has won an abundance of awards at gay and lesbian film festivals.System Requirements:Run Time: 98 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre:Â DRAMA Rating:Â UNRATED UPC:Â 754703762894 Manufacturer No:Â WOL4477D

Customer Rating: Summary: Great movie. Comment: Thoroughly enjoyed this movie. A bit of intrigue, great story, sexual without the actual sex. Feel good movie.
Customer Rating: Summary: not bad Comment: this film was ok. the acting wasn't great. the story was one that i feel several people could identify with, but took too long to unfold. if you're looking for a lot of lesbianism in a film this is not what you're looking for. this movie centers on a woman who is unhappy with her life (marriage, no children, failed childhood dream) and while she is looking to recapture some of that childhood glory finds herself falling in love with a lesbian.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Gymnast Comment: I recommend this movie. If U like Imagine You & Me, you will appreciate this film. The aerials scences are fantastic.
Customer Rating: Summary: Was OK but was wanting more Comment: I gathered all the friends, made Chili and we watched it togther. Most said it was OK but that it left them wanting more. It is more on the sporty side then the romantic side. The artistic side of the movie was very good. We think the ending could have been more dramatic than what it was.
Customer Rating: Summary: Really great movie Comment: What a great movie. There are so few good movies that deal with gymnastics or circus arts in a mature way. Yes, sure, "Trapeze" with Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis was really great but there are so few others. This movie is like a behind the scenes look at how you might imagine some performers make their way to Cirque Du Soleil. And pretty much all of the characters are beleivable and "real". No 2-dimensional "Bad" or "Good" guys here. And the female leads and sub characters are so likelable and interesting. Be sure to watch right through to the very end, one of the most heartwarming scenes in the whole movie occurs in little snippets as the credits are rolling and a great Jane Silberry song is playing in the background.
Plus this is what a DVD should be. The behind the scenes extras really gives a lot of great complementary info about how the movie and performances came to be and has great outtakes of some performances. And there is a related short movie called "The Catcher".
