Editorial Reviews:

This bundled package contains 1 extra brush head package. There is no difference between this model and dental professional model other than this one has the prettier retail packaging. Ultreo is the first power toothbrush to combine patented ultrasound waveguide technology with precisely tuned sonic bristle action. Ultreo's bristles create microbubbles that are powerfully activated by nearly 4 million cycles of ultrasound energy per brushing channeled by a patented ultrasound waveguide.

Summary: Split decision
Comment: I am of two minds on this product. I bought it after my dentist highly recommended it and after I read two research papers on the device. It operates differently from other tooth brushes. If you want a demonstration of this, stand over a sink, fill your mouth with mouthwash and brush your teeth. I said "stand over a sink" because the Ultreo will create enough foam to dribble out your mouth and down your front. The brush is so powerful that, brushing he gums, you can feel the outline of your roots. Try that with another ultrasonic!

As the user manual states, this toothbrush works best if you use it with sufficient liquid. A critical problem, though, is that the brush has very few bristles and you cannot push those bristles far into the gaps in your teeth. Why? Because the guided-wave central transducer in the center of the brush head prevents the bristles from penetrating into the gaps, nooks and crannies in your teeth. (In fairness, I should note that the directions say to only brush using light pressure.)

This brush misses areas. After several weeks of using only this brush and floss, I tried my old ultrasonic and found blood on the bristles - clear evidence of missed areas. I would suggest that anyone using this brush use it in conjunction with a standard ultrasonic or an old fashioned v. 1.0 manual brush, so that the alternate brush compensates for the Ultreo's problem of shallow penetration of the bristles into gaps in the teeth.

Summary: A good product
Comment: I wanted an ultrasonic tooth brush and this was the only game in town that I could find. It is my understanding that ultrasonic waves break up plaque and loosen/disturb the bacteria that cause it. This action will even extend to beneath the gum line and so it gets down into the pockets of tissue surrounding the tooth.
I was leery of the design because the head has so few bristles. This is due to the soft rubbery ultrasonic wave transfer pad located in the middle of the brush.
Never fear, this brush cleans well, with minimum effort.
It's expensive, and the replacement heads cost a fortune.
But it will pay for itself over time by keeping my mouth healthy.
And that's an important thing. As my hygienist put it "The teeth you have today are the best teeth you'll ever have." In other words there's no way to restore tooth health after it's gone.
There are some features I would change - for example the charge indicators are not easy to see without craning your neck down there and looking at it head on. But I have to rate it five stars because it's the only product of its kind that I know of. As such, it's the best.

Summary: new brush
Comment: We bought this toothbrush on the recommendation of our dental hygienist, the product delivered everything she said it would. My children are brushing their teeth more, and I am happy with my results also.

Summary: Broke after a week
Comment: This is an expensive product so I expected it to work perfectly from day one. After about a week, it stopped working properly; it would get very weak and stop moving with even the slightest pressure on my teeth. I noticed that if I banged it, it would start working properly again but a few days later, same problem. I sent a note to Amazon, they gave me the companies phone number and they agreed to send a new one out immediately. That's pretty good customer service so I'm satified that it's just a bad one and the next will be fine.

Summary: Expensive
Comment: This thing is not worth the money in my opinion. A $5 electric toothbrush would do the same job.
