Editorial Reviews:

A biological control for fungus gnat larvae. Uses a variety of bacillus thuringiensis bacteria to kill the larvae. Apply as a soil drench or add to the nutrient solution of your hydroponic system. Does not kill adult fungus gnats, but once the larvae is killed, the adults will quickly die off. Can be used up to the day of harvest on all edible plants.Use 1 to 8 teaspoons per gallon of water depending on severity of infestation.

Summary: Gnat Killa
Comment: This is an effective product when our pothos plants get waterlogged and gnat filled. It takes 3 weekly applications for total loss of life, but the plants thrive in the meantime. Make sure you read the directions for use--these are living bacteria-- don't mix this in your lemonade pitcher.
The company has been great. We've ordered this product from them several times over the years.

Summary: Seems to work
Comment: This is a great product. It seems to work well. I say "seems" because we still have an occasional gnat now and then. We used to have tons of gnats. The table tops where our plants sit were speckled with dead gnats so we knew it was working.

Summary: Gets the job done
Comment: Had a nasty infestation of fungus gnats on one of my house plants so after a bit of research i figured id try gnatrol. It took about a week to come in so it wasnt exactly a fast delivery but the product definitely works. It took a bit of time for the gnats to be completely eliminated but after a week they were non existent. Also seeing that you will only need a couple tablespoons per gallon its a great bargain

Summary: It kind of works.
Comment: I've got a bunch of houseplants at my home & office. I had a real problem with gnats, including one zebra plant (Aphelandra squarrosa) that was horribly infested. I've been using Gnatrol for over a month now, as directed on the package for "heavy infestation." I've noticed a reduction in gnats, but I haven't gotten rid of them entirely. Some plants still have three or four gnats flying around them every time I check, and of course that means there are probably dozens more hidden in the mulch or about to emerge from the soil. The plant that was horribly infested still seems to be infested, despite my frequently drenching it with a strong Gnatrol solution. I therefore have a hard time agreeing that this product is highly effective against gnats--how can they survive the drenchings if Gnatrol is so good at killing the larvae?

Two potential problems occurred to me that I would point out: First, Gnatrol only targets a single species of insect. If you have something similar but not the same species, it might not work as well or at all. Second, insects like gnats can adapt and evolve within a very short period of time because there may only be a few days between generations-- that's why many genetic experiments are conducted on fruit flies. If the gnats could develop some trait that helps them survive the presence of Gnatrol in the soil, you'd have to find another way to get rid of them. I don't know if either of these thoughts are the reason why I still have a gnat problem. All I know is that I'm still embarrassed about the flies hovering around my plants in my home and office--but at least there are fewer of them.

Summary: Jury's still out, but looks like it works...
Comment: I just started using Gnatrol a few weeks ago and the gnats coming out of my plants has greatly reduced. I mean, they're not completely gone, and I do start to see a surge of them after I water my plants, but I have sticky traps right next to the plants, so the gnats don't get far. I have noticed that my plants are getting brown, but I don't know whether that is due to the gnatrol or other factors. I think I may have used too concentrated a solution the first time. But, all in all, I am satisified with the product.
