Comment: 15 days without power would have been my destiny had it not been for the PwrMax4400E. Not only was it the quietest generator of all the gen sets running in my cul-de-sac, it lasted the longest time (12 hours @50%load) of all the rest on 4 gallons of fuel. After unpacking, fueling and adding the oil...I turned the key and it was all heaven from then on, I did use the pull crank to make sure it worked and it started on the first pull. She ran 12 hours with a 2-3 hour cooling off period in between shifts. It ran a huge Refridgerator/freezer, a small chest freezer, a 5500 BTU window A/C, several fans,2 lamps,a 31"TV, Boombox, and phone chargers. All without a hiccup. Followed the directions , plugged in the highest wattage first,kept the oil topped off and finally changed it after 15 days of use and it wasnt that dirty. This gen set was awesome and the best money I have ever spent for creature comforts. I would highly recommend this generator to anyone in need and as a matter of fact a couple neighbors did replace their older noisier models for a PowerMax after seeing what mine did. Planning on getting the bigger 10,000 watt surge Powermax for next years' hurricane season and power up right to the house CB box with a switch box.I was amazed and impressed. Loved the fact that it didnt require frequent oil changes as some gen sets do. 5 stars *****

Comment: I received the item just a few days before Hurricane Ike - it worked for the first week, and then just stopped working. I am very disappointed that the generator only worked for 1 week and wouldn't work after that. For a brand new generator to work only for 1 week really irritated me cause I was without power for 2 weeks due to Hurricane Ike and have to say the second week was just herrific - so hot and muggy. I even had to sleep in the car one night due to the heat. It was very frustrating and disappointing that a brand new item only worked for 1 week. We believe it is the carborator so I did call and requested a new one and they were quite prompt in sending it to me, so once I replace the carborator, I will give an update, but all in all after 1 week of usuage and having to replace the carborator on a brand new generator just doesn't seem right to me. To sum it up - I'm not that impressed with this item.

Thie is a 5 Star, small, powerfull and quite Generator. (1) I must share the voltage switch is also a tap changer, do not switch unless breaker is off (open) or generator is shut down. (2) This generator and many have an aluminum cylinder and no oil filter, make your first two oil changes sooner than 20 hrs., I would recommend 6 hrs. for 1/st, 12-14 hrs. for the 2/nd, 20 hrs. then after. Break it in not out! Don't overload this fine generator and be diligent with oil changes and it will serve you long and well.

Summary: Customer Service Terrible!
Comment: Looked great, but wouldn't start. Customer service was terrible. They said they wouldn't ship a new one unless I paid to ship the defective one back to them. Told me that was their shipping policy and it was posted everywhere (I have not found it anywhere). When I asked to speak to a manager, they sent me to a man who said he didn't have a title, just that he'd been there "forever." He told me there was no one else I could speak with.
Luckily I have a handy neighbor, who spent a good deal of time pulling the generator apart and found the faulty part. Max Tool did ship me a new part at no cost, but refused to expedite the shipping (which takes a week) unless I paid for it. We put in the new part and now the generator works, thankfully.
Bottom line- I was very disappointed with customer service. They said, "if you bought something from Petsmart and needed to return it, Petsmart wouldn't pay for shipping." My reply, "They would have if they had sent me a defective product!" (especially if the product cost $400!!)
