Comment: John Bayless notes the baroque focus and commitment in his approach to Elton's music, and his invention carries the day. I would only note the concept is not new; Liszt was one of his progenitors, with his own spin on the baroque. John Bayless is very much in this tradition. All the EJ songs he revisions are superbly achieved.
A small annoyance: Mr. Bayless's proselytizing is inappropriate for the case notes. This should not deter anyone from savoring this CD, though.

Comment: This CD is amazing. If you don't own it, you are missing out on of the greatest piano CDs of all time. Mr. Bayless, in this album, is at the intersection between Bach, Disney's blockbuster Lion King music, and Elton John. The Circle of Life track is amazing. It is definitely a reason to listen to the soundtrack again. I was truly touched. I don't care for Elton John much, but Bayless makes these songs sing. He is incredible. What a wonderful and talented pianist!

Summary: Response to Hodgson review
Comment: Where to begin? First of all, DUH, the CIRCLE OF LIFE album cover plainly states "in the style of Bach" Hello? Classical connotations! One should stick to reviewing artists with whom one is familiar.
The CIRCLE album follows in the Bayless grand tradition of piano masterpieces stemming from the works of the Beatles, Bernstein (West Side Story) and Puccini. We loyal fans of John Bayless eagerly look forward to his new releases, never to be disappointed by his genius. The improvisations on Elton John are certainly as stunning, insightful, enriching and beautifully dramatic as the previous Bayless hits!

Comment: I was not expecting classical music - it was promoted as Elton John music, which I really like. I had to give away the CD. Barbara Hodgson, David's wife.
